Chloe (pronounced Shiloh)
I had a Heaven Nevaeh in peds.

What I've noticed lately is a trend for "unique" spellings. One I posted in another thread: Jaymz.

Also one named "Trae." I always thought that was a nickname used for a kid who happened to be "John Doe III." This kid's dad and grandfather had totally different names.

We know a couple whose son is named after the dad. They call him "Deuce." (At least, I think it's just a nickname!)

I also have a hard time with people giving kids names which are not pronounced the way they are spelled, then getting peeved when the rest of us aren't mind readers, as in:
"Jonathan but pronounced Joe Nathan....got mom upset when I called him Jonathan" We had one in peds which was spelled something like Alleluia but pronounced like A-lay-yah. This mom got mad because everyone (but everyone!) pronounced it like it was spelled: Al-lay-lu-yah. Parents like that are either going to chill out about the name, or go through life mad.

Oh, and I had a baby in peds the parents named "Angel." Due to a clerical error, her records orignally had her name as "Angle."

Re: Funny Names

I actually kept a list a few years ago when I was working at a bush hospital in Zambia. We would go into villages and immunize hundreds of kids, so I saw quite a few names over the course of the summer. Apparently any English word will do! Some of my personal faves?

Obvious
Emergency
Thankston
Champ
Matron
Progress
Mars
Ethelbert
Basin
Flex
Stew
Organ
Wand
Chunks
twins: Steve and Stevious
and a baby I delivered whose mother named her Marble

I just love it when you ask the mom how to spell the baby's name and they have to really think about it...hmm..let's see...then they change the spelling in mid-sentence! Very odd.

Re: Funny Names

Where I used to work had a large Cambodian population and there was a Mom whose English wasn't so great... I can't remember how it was spelled but the little girls' full name would've been pronounced (in English) Easy Lay! We had to sit mom down for a little talk and suggest it might not be such a good idea...
