Yes, 28 weeks is NORMALLY the point where most preemies are going to be okay - meaning they'll probably survive. This isn't saying they'll have easy NICU courses though! And with multiples, they are typically a week or more behind in development and definitely in size. I know she's going to be getting steroids and everything, but still, 28 weeks for sextuplets is NOT the same as 28 weeks for a singleton. And hello, surviving in the NICU is one thing - can you imagine raising 6 "normal" babies at once, much less 6 former micropreemies?!?! Trying to get past 32 weeks should be her goal - get to the point where those vessels in the brain are going to hold up though what is going to be a tense delivery and immediate newborn period.

I am also wondering why in the world they did IUI because of miscarriages?!?! Now, those fertility clinics will take anyone's money - and it appears this one not only took their money but also failed to monitor her follicles before IUI. I'm glad this pregnancy "took" but doesn't it seem like it would have made more sense to find out why she miscarried before and to treat that, then tried naturally before giving an apparently fertile woman infertility treatments? Very strange situation.

We probably don't know the whole story, that's true. But that doesn't change the fact that IUI isn't a treatment for miscarriages. It's a treatment for women who can't get pregnant naturally. Staying pregnant is a whole other ballgame that involves totally different treatments - hormone supplements, blood thinners, cerclages, etc.

Also went to the website and am also annoyed. I mean, with six babies, they really don't need to be asking for donations. They'll get PLENTY without asking. Pampers or Huggies will provide them with a year of diapers and wipes. Similac or Enfamil will give them a case of formula for each baby every month for one year. Some local car dealership will donate a huge SUV or conversion van to them for their own publicity. And Ty Pennington will put them on TV and turn their little house into a 7-bedroom mansion complete with a central interactive video monitoring system...

The baby registries include things like $23 crib sheets, $24 hooded towels, and $66 crib bumpers. Not sets, each. Seriously, with six kids, luxuries like that are a bit over the top. Who is going to spend $144 just to get each baby his or her own designer towel?!?!

Then again, I'm totally a baby registry snob, LOL!

I was wondering the same thing! I have had one miscarriage, my best friend has had two. My sister one, now we all three have beautiful healthy children (one for each of us) but never was IUI or any of that stuff considered for us after our miscarriages...we were not able to carry a child, we obviously got pregnant, just couldn't carry it so why spend all the money to be fertilized if you are not sure if you can even carry a child? I'm guessing there is more to the story but you know the news...nobody cares about the details LOL!

Anyway I was looking at infertility treatments later after 7 years of trying to have a baby and then voila I had gastric bypass surgery, lost 50 lbs in a month and bam bam I'm preggo. YOWSA! I'd like to have more but I agree I would definately review/research the risks before going with a treatment that might get me 4+ kids at once. My 18 month old son keeps me hopping as it is!

24 dollar hooded towels? YIKES I'm using the ones I got for my baby shower, a tonnnnnnnnnn of the hooded ones, from walmart, target and babies rus, I'm sure a pack of three is less than 24 bucks. YIKES!

IUI is usually a treatment for ineffective/immotile sperm, or hostile cervical mucus. It seemed like the dad was a little uncomfortable every time she mentioned "insemination" so I'm wondering if it was on his end...the miscarriages are just a part of her history. I don't think it was the main reason she used this particular fertility treatment.

I have to say a couple things:

34 weeks probably is considered term for a sextuplet pregnancy. They lower what is considered term with the more babies in there.

Bedrest is darn hard, but I am still angry with Bobbi McCaughy (however you spell it) because her cervix/uterus/kidneys were still ok, she just couldn't take the bedrest/pregnancy any longer. Hopefully this woman will let her body decide when to end the pg, not her.


I just feel icky about all these and how they glamourize multiples. We have enough kids in our NICU who are the only surviving twin, or they both have major problems. People just don't realize.

Glamourizing multiples is absurd. We're talking a litter here, not having twins or triplets. So unfair to the children. The website is unbelievable. Gees.

gee my last baby was lucky if he got a new towel, being no four, he got he was given!!lol, silly people, its not things that love children, it parents. It seems that they are already taking advantage of their babies as a money maker. I can guareentee that they will get paid mega bucks for the photos as it is. and as for being sick of bedrest!!!!! what the !!!!! does she really think she will get out much after the babies have been born??? duh......

I apologize for my original post--I hadn't veiwed the video when I posted it(still haven't, actually). I guess there are some discrepencies in the article when compared to what she herself states in the video.

I'm not a NICU nurse-I work Antepartum, so while I don't care for the tiny sick babies like you all do, I care for the mom before and sometimes after they birth these babies, and I do "deal with" (for lack of a better term) babies born well before--or just before--viability or stillborn in the Pts bed. Didn't mean to offend anyone--like I said, there seems to be some differences between the article and the video.
