I agree...you did nothing wrong. Babies lose their IV's all the time, it was well worth it to give that mother time with her baby, especially since he has already been there so long!
I think you did the right thing by letting the mom hold. I think that other nurse must have been on a tiff or something. Seriously just because he lost his IV doesn't mean the infant ISN'T going to survive. Goodness! Bonding for mom & baby is ESPECIALLY important.
