# of deliveries and size of NICU

I was just curious. How many deliveries do you have a year or a month and how many beds does your NICU have. Include stepdown/intermediate units as well.

Thanks!

Re: # of deliveries and size of NICU

I don't know exact numbers but it's a lot! We're a high risk and teaching hospital. I know as part of the team that attends deliveries I've often been called to 8-10 in a 12 hour shift.
We have 40 level III beds
20 intermediate beds
6 "transitional" beds (mostly for our chorio/r/o sepsis babes)
We're usually pretty full.

Re: # of deliveries and size of NICU

We had 260 deliveries in our L&D in May, and attended 130 of them. We are seriously cutting down, though, as they have been abusing us.

Oops, I forgot the rest:

We are a 25 bed mixed unit, expanding to 40 by the end of the summer.

Well, our hospital is second in the nation (more)

for deliveries per year. The number is somewhere upwards of 16,000.

Our unit is set up for 35 Level III, 48 Level II, and another 24 Level I (waiting to go home)....so that's close to 100, but we've been much higher than that at times!

Re: # of deliveries and size of NICU

I was told that last year we had approx. 300 deliveries, but that this year was shaping up to be somewhat higher than that.

The unit has 30 NICU beds, 10 Special Care beds, and up to 10 Newborn Nursery beds (stable feeder/growers, observation, etc.), and then however many "regular" newborns we have in addition.

Re: # of deliveries and size of NICU

I have no idea how many deliveries my hospital has... I don't even know how many beds L&D has! Our NICU has 24 Level III beds though, and our Level II has 11. They are currently building a new women & infant's building that will house a 50 bed mixed Level II/Level III unit, but that's not due to open until 2008.
