Question cord care

Do you still protect the infant's cord by not submercing the baby before it falls off when you bathe baby? I have been bathing babies for 17 years in nursery/SCN without worrying about this and have never seen it interphere with length of time for cord to fall off or occurrence of cord infections. I had done the literature research and policy change in r/t alcohol on the cord about 4years ago and we no longer put anything on the cord, but this was the next "old wives tale" I was wondering about.
