I am looking at getting my CLC (certified lactation counselor). Does anyone have experience with this? I feel it would be very helpful for many NICU moms that already are scared to death just to hold there baby let alone breastfeed. Do hospitals just hire for this position? Any info. would be great.

Do a google search for lactation consultant training programs, there are several out there. A lot of nurses on my unit are lactation certified, but the hospital only has a few positions located on the postpartum unit.

The last hospital I worked for had a dedicated NICU LC, and she was awesome. Any nurse could refer a mom to her at any time, and she made it so easy for them to learn to breastfeed, from cleft palate kids to oral aversions.
