Talking Is it Christmas? Major unit changes!!!!!

We've got nearly 20 new positions posted (half already filled)! We're getting a full staff of RTs! There will be more non-nursing staff to take care of supplies and equipment! We have a few spots for nursing students that are dedicated solely to our unit! There is REAL hope to reach 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4 nurse patient ratios....No more 8 baby assignments!!!!!! Haven't heard where all the money is coming from, but we do actually make money for the hospital, so maybe we're finally getting some priority.
Pinch me...I must be dreaming! :hatparty:
What a GREAT Day!!!!!

Where on EARTH do you work with 8 baby assignments?!?!?!?!?! That is the most ridiculous thing I have EVER heard of! It can't even be humanly possible to get all those feedings in, much less actually do a good assessment on all of your patients?! Now that's putting your RN license at risk. THank God they have hired all those people but you are so lucky nothing has happened up until now. Good luck & hope it all works our for you.

8 baby's!!!!!???? We don't even have that kind of ratio in our well baby nursery. Much less NICU. Well I hope yall get the staff y'all need to ease the load because that is quite a load. Meanwhile protect that license!

Sounds more like JCAHO is coming, not Santa.

JCAHO has already been here.
It has more to do with finally having a permanent Director of Nursing. I'm sure it will help our cause too that there won't be anymore announced JCAHO visits. The hospital will have to be prepared all the time.

Also, I didn't mean to freak anyone out. 8 babies is never a standard and doesn't happen very often. Usually it's a result of last minute call-ins. Usually with special care babies it's 1:6...I know, still too many. But the other nurses do rally and help with feedings, etc. It's busy but not impossible---all the feeder/growers get what they need and some holding time too. Still, you can put me in ICU anyday.
