Red face Just @ to start LPN school-Advise Please

Hi Everyone,
I am about to start nursing school later this month. Can you give me any advise before I start nursing school?? My mom is a nurse and a lot of her students at school tell her that the pre req's were almost harder than nursing school itself, but that nursing school is still demanding, but in a time consuming way... I dont know if that is true or not. I'm acutually really nervous, Im leaving my job and everything. If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appricaite it.
Thank you!

Re: Just @ to start LPN school-Advise Please

After teaching for 16 yrs, I left in December and started an LVN program in Jan. I have spent mostof my time in study groups making all this information sink in. We have started clinicals these past couple of weeks and I have to tell you that it was all worth it. I really enjoy it. My classmates are wonderful. They come from medical and nonmedical backgrounds and they are succeeding. Can you make it? Sure you can. Dedicate yourself to the time needed to do the work and you can make it. Get yourseld set up with a good support group and they will help you throught the rough patches just as you will help them.
Good luck to you.

Take your studies very seriously. Don't make the mistake many of the young students tend to make, feeling like it's not important to come to class, to not do the reading & studying, & just plain goofing off. We have several in my class & they are the ones who for some reason, think all the teachers are "mean" & out to get them. Who claim that the questions on the test are not related to the information covered in class, as if they knew what was covered in class. They are the ones who will be repeating classes or worse yet, disappearing in the next couple weeks, not returning when classes resume next month.

It appears as if my opinion is different than those already listed.

In my honest opinion, LPN school was not academically challenging or "hard". However, there was a whole lot of information to learn in a very small, compressed amount of time. You will pass easily if you manage your time wisely, study a little every day, and avoid procrastination. Good luck!

I actually agree with the Commuter. Academically challenging, not to me. Volume of work -- huge.

Good organizational skill, planned study time, and determination got me through without any problems.

I know a lot of people on this site say that "you're GPA is not attached to your license...all you need to do is pass"....I say no way. You need to try and attain 100% of what you are taught b/c that is only 25% of what you will need in the field.

Also, dont cram. You have to study as you go because boards are cumulative of the whole 1 or 2 year programs worth of work.

You need a huge support group and people behind you. I think this website is one step in the right direction. People have always been supportive and helpful to me.

I have been an LPN for 21 years and am finally ready to finish my degree. No offense, but if you can, get your RN (BSN even). You will have many more opportunities and make quite a bit more money.
