I am so mad & freakin frustrated right now I could scream!!!! I went to my CC LVN orientation yesterday and I & many other students were informed that the LVN Program at my CC was going to for sure accept 45 students but a clinical site told the Health Sciences department that now they cannot accept the nursing students from my CC and so now the Dean of the Health Sciences department said for sure 30 will be accepted but she is going to keep trying to find clinical space for 15 more & I am #44!!!! This is due to all those **@@@!!!! Private vocational schools out here taking up all those clinical spaces!!!! It's not fair now I will probably have to wait another year to start becuase I cannot afford the $20,000 they want or get a loan that huge!!!! I want to start so bad I could cry right now!!!! Anyone else tired of waiting to start I could use some cheering up I am so depressed right now!!!! Plus my back up plan is gone because I was going to enroll in CNA classes at my CC if I do not get in but now they cancelled them for the summer session & they hope to get the CNA classes back in intersession 2009 & of course that will have a wait list if I cannot register fast enough!!!!
Missy. So sad to hear. Unfortunately having clinical sites is a major problem everywhere. I live in Ohio and we have too many students and not enough sites. I wish you the best!!
Thank you both so much, hopefully some people will start droping out so I & some of the other students can get in. The Dean of the Health sciences department said she will keep trying to find space for 15 more students, I will keep my fingers, toes, etc.crossed!!!! They mail out the acceptance letters on May 29, my B-day is May 31!!!! I hope I get an acceptance then what an awsome B-day present that would be!!!! I will let you both know as soon as I find out ok!!!! thanks again for your kind words of encouragement!!!!
I am so sorry to hear that and now I feel a little guilty as I'm going to one of those schools that is taking up all the space though Palmdale isn't that close to me but its not completely out of range. Will you be put on the next list automatically? I'm sure your school will work out the clinical issues.

Don't feel guilty enjoy that you are starting soon, if I could do the private school thing I would be unforunatley it is just too much of a big loan right now. I really hope that my school works out the clinical issues. I wish you the very best, keep me posted & tell me how school goes if you have time. By the way where are you from, I am from Palmdale.
Missy, I'm sorry and believe me I feel your frustration, but to take it out on the "private vocational schools" out there and assuming that they're taking all the clinical sites is not true....The problem here and everywhere else is that there are so many students that want to enter the nursing profession and there are not enough clinical instructors (face it, the pay is lousy in teaching) and of course not enough clinical sites.....That is why there are limited spaces in each nursing program....I'm going to a "private vocational school" and the instruction there is superior...I'm getting what I'm paying for...As for the loan amount, you will be surprised how little the interest rate is....I'm still paying on my college loan that I have for my BA and it's only $187 per month!!!!!!!....that is so minimum....I had to take out a loan for nursing school....don't let the big loan amount fool you, you will pay it off in no time....If you don't want to wait (and I was one of those anxious people not wanting to wait to enter nursing school Spring 2009) try the private school....I'm set to graduate in April 2009 and do I believe it's worth it taking out a loan? YOU BET!!!!!......Try looking at other options for schools, you will be surprised how much opportunity you will have if you broaden your horizen.....Good Luck and please do let us know how you're doing...

Thanks for your great post and I am truly sorry for blasting private schools they are great I was just really upset after the LVN orientation & I needed to vent. You have a BA degree in what if you do not mind? I am almost finished with my AA degree in Health Administration I graduate on December 8, 2008!!!! That is a big reason why private school is not a good option right now my husband is worried about another student loan that is going to be big but like you said you are only paying $187 a month on your student loan that is amazing!!!! I will let everyone here know what happens ok wish me lots of luck!!!! By the way I too am a very anxious to start, I want to start so very badly I can taste it LOL!!!!
