Hi Schull,
I met w/ a rep from TCN and almost signed on the bottom line but didn't. I have so many questions about doing this online, through EC. I have been a LPN for 11 yrs and live in MI. and feel so ready to move on and get my RN. I don't even know how to navigate this site, but if you could give me info on how you did it, through who and also if you know what states won't accept nursing degrees from EC it would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day! ER Junkie

Re: Excelsior College or College Network

I just finished the LPN program and passed my NCLEX last week. I am doing TCN's LPN to BSN program pre-req's now. You don't have to do Excelsior, you can transfer (but check the school you want to attend first) complete classes to a university which accepts the coursework. Our nursing program STRONGLY discouraged using Rue and Excelsior, so no one from my program is doing either of those programs. I have found that I don't have to do ISU's distance program as I previously discussed with my TCN advisor, but I can attend USF locally instead. The best advise I can give you is to contact the university you'd like to attend on your own and talk personally with an advisor. You'll hear lots of people say lots of things, but until you hear directly from the source, I wouldn't put too much thought into what others say... including myself :-) It's just best to find for your self what the deal is, because we each have different experiences and hear different things.

I found another benefit of doing TCN was not having to travel to Atlanta for 3 days to complete clinicals. Since either university I attend uses preceptors at hospitals throughout the country, I can do my clinicals locally.

Good luck to you.

I am currently enrolled for ISU's first few courses using TCN. I have been in contact with an ISU guidance counselor whose just basically keeping me on track. I found though this week that USF (I live in South Florida) accepts the pre-req's from TCN, so I will probably just be attending USF intsead.

If I were you, I would go directly through Excelsior College because you would not have to worry about being misinformed and lied to by college network.

Re: Excelsior College or College Network

You can get any of TCN on ebay for next to nothing. Why in the world would you sign up with them? The ONLY thing they REALLY do is sell you study guides...all of which you can find on ebay. They don't give you the degree. Only the college does that. If you MUST have study guides get them from some poor soul who was suckered in off ebay. Don't be that person who fell for it.

Wow, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about... sad. You can't take people's advice from here. My actual Nursing school told us to NEVER enroll with Excelsior!! So none of us did. To each his own, somethings work for some people while other things work for others. Whatever an individual deems best for themselves is nothing for other people to get hateful about... just because they got burned because they didn't get accepted is no one's fault but their own. Or whatever the case may be.

TCN provides you with the coursework so you don't have to attend actual college courses, in person, on a time frame that doesn't meet your schedule needs. No, they don't award you a degree, but they set you up with admissions to colleges and YOU DO NOT have to go to Excelsior. There are two or three courses that are Excelsior coursework, that's it. You're not actually attending Excelsior nor will you ever have to. You can get your pre-req's from TCN and they'll help you apply to ISU, who then takes over and helps finish the admissions process. If you haven't actually gone through this process how can you advise others? All people are looking for here is guidance from those who have actually experienced the process. There's no need for hatefulness!!

Re: Excelsior College or College Network

Well..I would say the majority is very PO'd at TCN...including a friend of mine who is thousands in the hole. She sold her crap on Ebay and didn't even come CLOSE to getting back what she is STILL trying to pay off. Some lucky person was smart enough to check ebay first before buying directly through them. I'm not saying the guides won't help you pass..maybe maybe not..but why pay all that money and sign a contract??
