I am a LPN Student in an accelerated program. I feel like I am getting a quality education, but it hasn't been easy by any stretch of the imagination. We started with 27 students and are down to 18. Hopefully, all 18 that are left will make it through the program and pass the NCLEX.

I love reading these boards, but lately they have caused me distress. People that are having difficulty passing NCLEX. LPN's hating their jobs. The degradation of LPN's by RN's.

Getting to this point in school has not been easy. There have been alot of extremely late nights where I have had to prepare for Med Surg Clinical's the next day. This week we had tests over 12 chapters and we will have another test over 4 chapters on Monday. I have papers due, homework to complete, workbooks to do, chapters to read. I also have 2 of 4 children throwing up, a husband that works an insane amount of hours, and a part time job. I'm not complaining. I'm just stating that getting to this stage of the game has not been easy. I'm proud of my accomplishment....and all of you who have graduated, passed the NCLEX, and begun a career in nursing should be as well. It's not something everyone could do... and we are doing it!! Hooray!!

I hope to eventually complete my RN because of the increase in pay and the opportunities it affords. I also plan on completing my bachelors degree in Hospital Administration as I have obtained an Associates degree in Business and want to increase my chances of success.

Anyway, I'm not sure why I wrote this thread...just feel like chit chat I guess...thanks for all each of you contributes to this board. I don't always respond, but I love reading all of the threads.

Whether people admit it or not, each discipline feels abused, and what they do to compensate for their feelings of inadequacy is pick on others. This may not change when you become an RN or an administrator. What will happen, though, is obtaining your license and furthering your education if you choose is to open the doors to more opportunities than you had previously. Of course, preparing to be a nurse on any level takes HARD work, and the only way a person will gain respect for you is if you show professionalism, competence and humility...and even then, in spite of your best efforts, some will just be low life bums.

Keep up with your standards, learn to be flexible and carry yourself like a person who cares about what you do, and enough people will observe this and help open up even more doors for you.

I just wanted to write and let you know that the last few weeks are outright brutal and I'm sure you will feel a bit more upbeat after graduation. I wonder how many that aren't passing NCLEX had trouble passing nursing exams during school also. FWIW I felt very prepared for the NCLEX, didn't worry about failing and passed first time. I enjoy being a LPN. It was the right decision for me and I will always be thankful for the opportunities it has afforded me, especially the comfort level of knowing I am still a nurse if things didn't go well in my RN bridge program. Hang in there you are almost done! Jules

Thank you so much Jules. It really is brutal. I think I was just feeling like LPN's are thought of as "less than".... in the middle of completing this program, it feels anything like "little play nurse" to me! LOL
