I'm a fairly new LPN and I do private duty nursing of an active 14 month old w/ trach and I'm wondering if changing a mic-key button placed in the jejunum is any different than changing a gastric feeding tube. She's pretty mobile and I'm worried I will do something incorrectly if I need to replace it. Is there any words of wisdom or special things to watch for when changing? It also has a fair amount of seepage around stoma and I think I recall that this is normal d/t where it's placed?
Youtube has a few videos on these. Check them out. And the one pt. I had with a mic-key button she had a manuel that told u just how to change it. hope this helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn4ePSBiCTk

As far as i know; and have taken care of many Jtubes...ONLY Change a jtube under flouroscopy... Gtubes are much easier but the jtube is longer and there is more potential for injury and migration!!
