I was wondering if anyoen here is a private duty nurse for Maxim Healthcare in Ga/
If so, could you please list the pros/cons, any advice, experiences both negative/positive.
I am curious because a really close friend of mine gave a recruiter my name to contact.

Hi there! I'm doing private duty through Maxim in South Carolina. Overall, I think Maxim is a good company! Compared to my last agency, there are a number of things that I like better (much better!) about them.
However, I think there can be differences between individual Maxim branches. I have heard people complain about individual management techniques. For instance, you may get some Maxim locations where the director/staffing coordinators are more "business" minded and have no real grasp of nursing. The director of my local Maxim is great. Although he is not a nurse, he has a good grasp of nursing and does a great job managing the place. However one of the staffing coordinators is a young punk who does not seem to grasp that nurses are professionals...he has irritated me several times now. So I just don't talk to him...
Hopefully someone might be able to give you an opinion about your local Maxim!

You need to indicate the specific office location in order to get valid responses to your questions, and solicit PMs. Most people will tend to be careful about what they say on this public board about specific offices. I've worked for them in another state and my experiences have gone from one extreme to the other, depending on the time period and person I'm talking about. I would generally say that Maxim is a good company to work for, but like with all employers, you have to be aware and be willing to stick up for yourself. The staffing coordinators are young college graduates who are in training for management jobs. They can be very confused in their communications with nurses. You may have to be persistent in reminding individuals about things. Hope you have good experiences should you decide to go with this agency.

Wow! This is my EXACT experience with the two staffing coordinators in my Maxim office!!! (Although I must give a little credit and say that the one guy is a little more competent than the other.)
I am extremely CLEAR when I communicate, yet they have still screwed stuff up regarding scheduling and such. I was real ticked off the one time. When I recently notified them of time I needed off, I put it in writing and had them sign it, and then I kept a signed copy for myself. Now if they screw up, i have PROOF that I notified them. Sad, really that I have to do this....

I agree that it is sad that you feel you have to resort to having your coordinator sign for a copy of your written requests, but sometimes this is what one has to do. I thought about doing that many times when dealing with all of my agencies, not just Maxim. It used to make me angry how they never seemed to screw things up with some people. Those people always got the days, shifts, hours, time off, wages, benefits, whatever that they wanted, while I got excuses. This bothered me because I knew that I was one of their better employees. I got in this habit with Maxim, which I found to be helpful: I took to bringing my paperwork by the office frequently during the week instead of mailing it. When you are in the office almost as a daily fixture, it is difficult for them to say that you didn't tell them something and vice versa. He, he, it worked! (One time we actually had an extremely good looking guy and I joked about coming to the office just to see him. They laughed at me, but I still kept the lines of communication open. They also like it when you bring them food around lunch time!)

So far so good, the one young man that I deal with is great! A couple of others kinda so so.
I can't go visit the office because I live 3hrs away, but I do CALL and fax them whatever I need .
They are in the process of opening a new office only 1.5hrs away, so maybe that will help.
Right now I only work the afternoon shift and made it very clear I will not work, nights, weekends and that my family comes fisrt! I sacrificed too much inthe last 5 years working 7on/7off nights shift. That was one of the reasons I left the hospital.
Hoping all goes well! Thanks for all your replies, advice and hints!
