By using the union and interventions that they negotiated on behalf of all employees I was able to reclassify to a job that saved my pension, my insurance benefits and allowed me to go to school for my RN. While the abusive period sucked and I am still recovering from the emotional abuse in the long run the system worked. I will end up much better off in the middle to long term because of the help of the union. Dues are very cheap insurance to pay for the protection afforded against unfair and discriminatory treatment.

It can certainly be a head trip, I haer you all the way. I'm glad things worked out for you in terms of education and for your brotherhood loyalty.
Since that job, I can now tell my husband I see your point in something concerning a work issue and he (rarely) rears up with union issues. When I became ill (misdiagnosed yadeee yadee ya) he knew exactly what to do even though it felt uncomfortable to me, but I had exhausted all my options and I used my hard earned union dues for my worker's rights.
