Hi, MS here and I AM an Alcoholic

The nutshell version. drunk since age 16 gave away a beautiful house and a husband who I loved, but not as much as I loved tequilla and beer. Left hin took 2 years to get sober for 4 years (the promices were comming true for me) and then I did the worst things an alki in recovery can do, stopped meetings and stopped praying. 3 months later my Dear Brother was killed in an accident and 3 months more I suffered. The instant the oppertunity to drink came along I knew what would numb my grief and off to the races I went. No thought to conciquences. Here a year and a half later alcohol had touched every aspect of what I have. My new husband and I started drinking and fighting, work smelled booze on me, self reported to HPRP (Health Professionals Recovery Program) 2 rehabs and a third DUI, felony which is going to result in a suspension of my nursing licence. no drivers license for possibly 5 years and all that goes with this. So I have 2 weeks sober, a good sponser am working the steps and going to meetings most days. I feel free and grateful to be alive. AA works if you don't pick up the first drink work the porgram and most importantly believe in a Higher Power in whom to ask for help....
I AA

Thanks for sharing your story. ...cunning, baffling, and powerful. You've had some major losses that have to hurt.

Glad you're here. Keep coming back to your Higher Power, whatever that means to you.

Thumbs up Re: Hi, MS here and I AM an Alcoholic

Hello, Diamond Nurse!

I, too, am a recovering alcoholic...sooo blessed and happy and grateful not to have to wake up with a drink, go to bed with a drink. Nursing school is going very well, thanks to my Higher Power and sobriety! I know your struggle, and you have my love, prayers, and best wishes for a wonderful journey!
Just a few jewels my sponsor passed on to me, that we still talk about almost 5 years after the HELL:
Enjoy your sobriety: have fun with it!

Let those in the rooms love you until you can love yourself!

When you feel sadness (at loosing your best freind, the bottle), or fear, call before you fall!
is an emotion we cannot afford!

Either God has removed the obsession or he hasn't; act on this gift, accept that your Higher Power has removed this terrible obsession, and move on with your life. Everything else will come.

Know that I love you as we both trudge along this road of recovery!

Re: Hi, MS here and I AM an Alcoholic

Hello MS, thank you for sharing. I am an ADN student who's been sober in AA for 10yrs. Keep doing what you're doing and the promises will come true once again. It takes a lot of courage to come back to the rooms and I for one am very proud of you. I didn't know this recovery forum existed until today and It's really cool (I've always liked Tweety's posts and now I know why). My prayers are with you MS .
