I've been tempted to post in the regular forums but have always refrained due to all the judgemental responses from others that were brave enough to post.
Comments such as "Addicted nurses should lose their license forever and never be allowed to practice again" and "I would never want one of these people taking care of my loved one".
As if nurses weren't normal people with weaknesses and problems like everyone else. We should never be given a second chance to redeem ourselves and seek the right path and continue to be able to earn a living at our chosen profession.
And those people who would state "This would never happen to me". they don't have a clue. It could happen to you in a heartbeat. never say never.
I will post my story at a later date, as it is rather lengthy and I'm about to fall asleep! Just wanted to get my two cents in regarding what a lifeline I think this forum is.
So far, I've seen nothing but positive and hope it continues!
Hey! My name is Anne and I am an addict. I have 7 years sobriety. Like quite a few of "us" were all so glad to see this forum where you don't get told "that nurses who have an an addiction should be" banished from nurseland taking care of patients FOREVER. It is a long hard process going through the beginning of the recovery process, but I am so glad we are all here and all here together to support each other. We can't do it by ourselves, but together we have a wonderful support system. I am so glad you are here with us. And don't let that person get you down. You are one of a large number and I welcome you. Feel free to pm anytime to vent!
