Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

I own a ton of clamps, because they're hard to find when you need them. Other than that, nothing. My unit has a dedicated steth for each babe. When I got the job I gave my old adult steth to my cousin, who is an EMT.

I do have a bag with some of the little stuff that it's hard to find on the unit, like NS bullets, certain size of heelstick lancets, the vacutainer for coags (... I'm weird).

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

I have 2 stethoscopes, 2 BP cuffs, 2 bandage scissors, a few clamps and I think that is about it. I try to keep one set in my car at all times since I seem to forget things in the am.

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

A manual BP cuff, adult "regular" size, two electronic stethoscopes, three pairs of bandage scissors (two regular size and one tiny size), EKG calipers, stitch scissors, two clipboards, a set of long blunt-end drumsticks (so I can turn off televisions and reach crap like that), some bags that I never would have bought or be seen with if I were a normal human... numerous little name badge holders with the springy pullstring, and several pair fingernail clippers.

The clippers are cheap. And if I get froggy and give a non diabetic patient a manicure, there's an extra to use while the dirty pair gets cleaned. Oh. Two little penlights, people run off with mine or I drop 'em onto peri areas when trying to help people see to put in a difficult foley. EEW. When that happens the thing just goes in the trash.
Hm. And batteries for my scopes.

I keep a little medical spanish cheat flipbook in my bag too, although pantomime and gibberish usually works pretty well. The locker has my gayhart IV drug book in it, in case there's something I need that I can't find in my PDA. My palm is good nursing stuff too... It's a lovely work toy. The drip calculator makes me do the happy dance instead of getting a headache.

BP cuff (adult), assorted sizes of good strong hemos, bandage scissors, calipers, a carpuject--cause they are like gold where I come from--and my ears-both sprague and Littman. Always carry gloves and post-it notes and a handful of red and black ink pens in my pocket.

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

2 Steths, 1 bp cuff, 2 mini maglights and a couple of cheapies, just in case, a Venoscope, 1 pair of scissors, a few clamps, EKG calipers (very handy for poking people to assess sensory deficits, and I also hear they could be used for those wavy line thingies) and a disposable scalpel I swiped from supply to cut pills.

I used to be a carpenter, and I'm still a sucker for neat tools.

Almost forgot my PDA. I'm lost without my PDA. It even has a program to interpret those wavy line thingies.

Forgot my PDA/smartphone - best piece of equipment I have. If I don't know or can't find the answer, I can call someone who does - lol.
