Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

Stethoscope, PDA, watch, assorted pens, scissors, and a penlight on my person. I have a manual BP cuff and a pair of calipers in my locker for emergencies. Everything else is in the supply room or can be borrowed from a noob (because they carry all kinds of cool stuff ).

One hospital I worked at was doing so much construction and had so many power outages that I was tempted to buy a headlight like miners use, so I could see what I was charting, but I never did.

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

I have
Littman personalized stethoscope (don't remember which one)
Blood pressure cuff I got for $20
Bandage scissors (got them with the stethoscope)
RN notes It's this neat little book, half my Fundamentals class has it
A pen light that doesn't work very well. Got it with my skills pack
Skills pack (which is $70 of VERY overpriced bandages gloves etc). We use it in skills lab
I bought a clipboard with a calculator at a school fundraiser.
Also bought this pocket organizer that comes with a pen, pen light, and another pair of bandage scissors. I figure that I'll somehow need two.

And I'm only in my 1st semester of nursing school

Just a stethoscope and a cord clamp remover (newborns).
I used to have a pair of tiny bandage scissors (for cutting bracelets off newborns) but the nursery gods must have taken it as a sacrifice or something cause I can't find it....

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

When I was in school I had my adult stethoscope, bandage scissors, penlight, notebook, PDA, and usually a stash of alcohol wipes.
Now that I've started my new job in the NICU, all I bring to work is my notebook, calculator and various things to write with. The babies have individual stethoscopes, as well as scissors, etc. I don't use my PDA as much anymore since the unit generally uses a specific drug book...

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

Littmann cardiology steth that I use at work
couple of other old steths that I keep at home
manual BP cuff - had to buy it for nursing school, keep it at home
bandage scissors
trauma shears
pens
pen light
PDA
RN Notes - stays in my bag usually, don't need it since I have my PDA
ACLS/PALS pocket cards and book - have them in my bag just in case
I carry gloves and alcohol wipes in my pockets, along w/ scratch paper
cheap otoscope which I keep at home
I have calipers but don't use them at work
think that's it!

Re: What Nursing Gear do you personally own?

2 pairs of scissors(one in my pocket, one back-up) a ton of black pens that I purchase by the box, and my handy pocket sized notebook, which I use to write down surgeon preferences, procedure facts etc.

I've seen some OR nurses with this nifty bottle opener type thing that you can pry open med bottles with. I want one so bad-I've cut myself more times on the metal seals around the rim.
