This fall my nursing classes are back to back with no way I could return to the car between classes. At the very minimum I will need to carry 6 textbooks, plus notebooks, lunch, etc with me.
I hate wheeled backpacks but am definately going to have to get one, but is there any that will hold this much?
I really hate the idea of walking around campus with a rolling backpack, AND a regualr backpack on my back.
Any suggestions/reviews of backpacks would really help.

I'm sure if you look you could find one to suit your needs; however, I've *never* needed to bring a text to class. My teachers all taught off powerpoints and handouts and notes on the blackboard, so I would do the reading ahead at home, write my own notes, and then come to class and supplement my notes with the teachers' notes. I've only brought texts to school when I've come in with the purpose of working on a careplan or something. Those books are just too heavy to drag around if I don't need em. Also, our lab lends books one at a time (provided you give them your student ID and bring the book back to claim it when you're done) if you're just doing some reading at school. You may not find it necessary to bring your books to school at all.

They sell a backpack that can hold 6+ nursing textbooks (I suggest the one-volume Iggy's for starters) right next to the fire sale on lumbar discectomies.

In other words, you can either choose to buy one of those suitcases with wheels and a handle or you can not bring six books to class. The most I've ever had to bring was one, and it was a copy of the nurse practice act and weighed less than 1 Kg. Never needed to haul my 20+ books to class so far and I'll quit if it becomes a requirement next semester.

Thanks for your replies. Last semester we were required to bring our textbooks to class. But I had time between classes to return to the car, so I only had to have 2 books at a time with me. I have 3 nursing courses(with 2-5 books per class), and microbiology all back to back. I don't know if I will need the book for micro, but I do know that I will be required to bring the nursing texts with me.
Last semester we would get the look of extreme disapproval (the evil eye) if we did not have our books with us, and the instructors would call on us speficially to read something out loud in class, making us have to borrow our neighbors books. I think it is just one more way they torture us.

I think if I ever had to carry that many books at once I would go nuts! I have an LL Bean backpack and can fit 3 books in it sometimes but it's seriously heavy! That being said, I don't think most instructors expect you to bring textbooks to class. I've never done it and mainly use my textbooks at home for referencing things that I didn't quite get in class.

I have never brought my textbooks to class. I would find out what instructors require you to and in what classes you will actually use them regularly. i had to laugh at the people who haul them every day and we never ever open them or use them. We never had time to read from the book or do anything other than lecture or case studies. When we needed a book they would tell us beforehand. I am glad though because I couldn't see myself with a rolling bag!!

There are threads on allnurses about students having their books unbound at an office supply place and putting it in a 3 ring binder. That way they can just bring the chapter(s) that they are working on that day instead of the whole book. The chapter(s) can fit into a smaller 3 ring binder. Just a thought...

I bought a rolling salesman's catalog case for my dh to hold all the files and crap he had to lug around for his last job.

I don't think that was the exact one but it's very similar. The inside is basically a large open compartment with a laptop sleeve. I told dh when I bought it a couple years ago that when I started nursing school I expected to get that bag back.
