Swollen feet

I know that swollen feet are bad... oddly enough, my poor puds have gotten edematous... I just noticed it. My legs are not swollen, just the tops of my feet... I've just put them up on a chair... its wierd... yesterday, they got swollen, but I was wearing shoes (heeled sandals) that were a little too tight... I've been wearing my comfy shoes today, and I've been walking without difficulty... wierd... its like my skin's too tight... aside from lasix, which I don't have, and ER, which I'm not feeling up to... and, keeping my feet up, which I am doing... I wonder what to do... wow... its like+1 pitting on the top of my feet....... not good... I'm gonna consult the dear ol' supernurse mom in th AM...

just some hx on me if you're interested, the last few weeks, I've been feeling well... yesterday I went to the circus, and drank some wine. I have personal HX asthma, and migraine headaches. I am 24 years old, and yes, I'm very overweight (I dont need a lecture, I know what it can do to me) my period ended 2 days ago. I am also confused. oh well... keeping da durn uncomfortable things up now.. Maybe some compression in the AM.

wish me to feel more well.

You're right. Swollen feet is not good. It could have several causes from circulation, cardiac, hepatic, etc.

You might need a check up to find out why. At your age, even if you are "very overweight" you're still too young to get swollen feet.

Anyway, I wish you to feel more well.

I agree with ya's... I feel fine otherwise... they're a bit better after keeping them up all night (actually, I just woke up)

If it doesnt get better by tomorrow, I'm in to see my doc. Health insurance be damned, (Both sides of my family have hx chf.)

Does this run in your family? Some women tend to have swelling in their feet and/or legs, especially during the warm summer months, and if they look to older generations they'll often find their mothers and grandmothers had the same type of thing. It IS due to poor circulation, but it doesn't necessarily mean one has CHF. I've had it since I was 30 or so........my sister has the same thing, as did our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. None of us has heart failure.

Yes, you are a bit young, but overweight does contribute to the problem, and if you inherited this tendency, you'll probably have to deal with it on & off for the rest of your life. Just remember to keep your feet elevated whenever you can, drink plenty of WATER (NOT soda---it makes the swelling worse) to flush out your system, and you might want to consider compression stockings for when you have to be on your feet a lot. You will also want to see your doctor to make sure this ISN'T something more ominous, and of course take his/her advice.

Good luck to you!

Cashew,

Mom had the same problem with her hands and feet. Her skin would look and feel so tight it looked glossy. Anyhow, the doctor prescribed the lasix and while it helped temporarily it continued to bother her. About a few years ago she was diagnosed with extreme blood pressure and cholesterol. The doctor (a different one) told her that the swollen hands and feet were an initial sign of poor circulation, and while the lasix did help somewhat the inevitable happened

Take care of yourself, watch your sodium intake and drink plenty of fluids. Hope you feel much better
