Shoes...what do you wear?
|
|
No matter who I talk to, everyone has different opinions on shoes. I realize that everyone's comfort varies and different shoes fit people differently.
So...what is your shoe of choice and why? Also, what color shoe do you usually wear?
Me..I wear Dansko shoes in black. They were rotten to break in the first two weeks and I could only wear them part of the day. Now, they are super comfortable. I see a lot of nurses wearing Crocs and I wonder if they offer good support and comfort?
Thanks for sharing

I wear Cherokee Rockers Lights. The BEST, imo. Besides being comfortable and light, the insoles can be removed, and the shoes tossed in the washer. I wear white, and wash them in the washer w/ bleach almost daily. I think I have some of the cleanest, whitest nursing shoes in existance, lol.
Co-workers frequently ask me how I keep my shoes so white.

I have a short, wide foot (women's size 6.5) with plenty of fat on the instep portion, so most shoes do not fit me properly. For athletic shoes, I wear New Balance sneakers to work because they come in varying widths from narrow to extra wide, and the insoles are removeable so that they can be washed and replaced easily. Also, New Balance shoes leave my feel feeling comfy for entire 16 hour shifts.
If I want to wear a casual shoe to work, I wear my SAS shoes. They are very expensive at $120 per pair, and also not very attractive. But they are one of the most comfortable pairs of orthopedic shoes I have ever worn. They are all hand-made at a factory in San Antonio, and shipped to the rest of the country. The insoles are removeable for easy washing, and they tend to last forever. Also, my feet feel great at the end of a 16 hour shift at work after wearing these shoes.

White Nike Shox for me. Leather=easy clean up. Wipe them down with a Clorox w/bleach whip for easily removed stuff like coffee, juice etc. And a damp cloth with Soft Scrub w/bleach every week. and I toss them in the washer (yup, the washer) every week.
I have a terrible time trying to find shoes/sneakers that don't hurt my little toes. I found the shox and I only wear them. I have them in every possible color.
I can honestly say I can have them on my feet for 15 hours and never once think "I can't wait to take my shoes off" even when I get home, I don't think it, but I do take them off immediatly and leave them in the garage. BUT I put a "home" pair of Shox on once I walk in the door.

Currently, I wear Crocs.....with the holes on top. In fact, I'd say about 50% of the staff on my unit(and many more people throughout the other units/depts) wear Crocs, with & without the holes. As of right now, the hospital I work at has not adopted &/or enforced a policy regarding these shoes. However, if it does become an issue down the road with the "holey" ones, I will go & buy a pair of closed top Crocs because I can't imagine not wearing these shoes. They are SO comfortable and I never leave work at the end of the day with sore, or sweaty, feet(that's why I like the "holey" ones... ).
In the past, I've also worn Danskos. I love these shoes, too, but my feet don't breathe as well in them. Comfort-wise, however, they are right up there with the Crocs, IMO, and they last forever!!

I work the pm shift and I'm on my feet all shift so at the end of my shift I noticed that my low back and knees would start hurting. I went to the Good Feet store and bought inserts that I can wear inside any shoes I wear. It's a little expensive, but I no longer suffer from back ache or pain in my knees since I got the inserts.

I wear Danskos, too. They provide the best arch support. They take a couple of weeks to break in, but once they are - they are awesome and last for a long time compared to other shoes.
