LOL, You are most welcome!
standing on your feet for several hours can be less painful if you prepare
try using support stockings, this helps from getting spider veins. I learned a lot from the veteran nurses.
Good luck and remember to keep smiling
with new happy feet

I have been thru 10 different pair of nursing shoes trying to ease my horrible foot pain. Our foot doc said I have heel spurs plantar fasciatis (sorry about spelling). Our anesthesia doc gave me a catalog with the best thing to ever hit my feet!!! These clogs are called "CROCS". They are the weight of those foam packing "peanuts" and finally my feet no longer throb. Although they are not particularly stylish, I now own 4 pairs. Word has spread thru our hospital, and dozens of nurses now wear these amazing shoes. They sell for 29.99 in most catalogs and I have seen them at Dicks Sporting goods for the same price. However, there is a knock-off version at payless for 14.99 which are identicle with the exception of being a tad more narrow. Try them, you will NEVER, EVER want to wear a "normal" shoe again.
Good Luck, Terri P

I have flat feet and found that orthotics have helped me with arch support. I wear a New Balance MW811 sneaker which suits my wide feet and has room for orthotic inserts. These were recommended by a podiatrist.
There's a site that I go to for recommended Nurses shoes and orthotics:
http://www.most-comfortable-shoes.com/nurses_shoes.html
There's also an informative site on heel and other foot pain I use:

I use a Spenco orthotic insert in my New Balance sneaks. New Balance MW811 model that has room for the orthotics as well as my wide feet. Make sure you invest in your feet. They will thank you for it, aand of course you'll feel better throughout the day.

Crocs work well for most people but I'm not one of them. They don't really make much of a difference for me.

friends, friends, friends..... let me introduce you to the one single thing that has changed my life.
This was recommeded to my by a fellow nurse for relief from hot flashes. It works very well.... then lo and behold after taking it for about two weeks I woke up one morning and NO FOOT PAIN. None, it was gone.
Made my husband try, his feet just kill him, and it worked.
ok, no more suspense, Do you want to know what it is?
Soy milk.
the most disgusting thing to drink on this planet
it really is bad
I would rather die than skip this now essential part of my day.
I beg you to try it, just one small glass every day. I promise you will become a believer. ( the chocolate tastes a tad bit better)

Gahhhhhhh....
I can't even stand *real* milk.
But I can't stand foot pain anymore so even **I** will give it a try.
How long before it works? Or if it doesn't work, do I get to come back and yell? And how much is a SMALL glass? An ounce? LOL

Can I hijack this post by offering my condolences then asking about heel cracks? How do you get them to heel(pun intended)?

Ohhh, I know!
First use a product to remove dead skin. It is like sandpaper but made FOR feet. Get rid of the thick, dead skin and then use LOTS of lotion.
Keep the healthy live skin supple with a quality lotion such as Eucerin or sween cream. Something without all the crap, scents, and preservatives. Just plain basic cold cream (also great for the tissue around skin ulcers).
Try that and see what happens. I think you'll be happy with the results.
