Let me ask you guys...do you have foot, knee and ankle pain? Mine is HORRIBLE especially in the morning. I feel that the balls of my feet are hard to walk on in the morning for about an hour or so. During the course of the day (doesn't matter if I am resting or not), it improves, but, I still feel the pain. I had one of the doctors check me out, and she stated that my labs were normal (didn't ask her to take a rheumatoid factor, though), no inflammation or such. She gave me a prescription for Naproxen, which is helpful, but I only take it when the pain is untolerable. I did purchase a new quality mattress, so, the shoulder pains and back pains gained much relief. But, I am thinking of everything from osteoarthritis, to muscle sprains. I am wearing sneakers because the nursing shoes are murder. I get relief when I shower, but, now, when I get home, I am beat, and the feet are throbbing...I sometimes feel sub-human. I am going to the podiatrist at my hospital by next week...hopefully, he can write a prescription for some freaking shoes!

Am I alone in this, or are other nurses experiencing this, too??? I find this amazing, because I worked as a CNA, patient care tech, phlebotomist, medical assistant...the pain was not like this for me then. I want to get back into walking for exercise, but, the pain is too much at times.

Yes, my feet are very sore since strarting in nursing becasue we are always on our feet and the floor is so hard. Only thing I can recommend is gel inserts. "Are you gelin?" lol. Also, invest in some nice shoes. It helps a lot.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I know many LVN' with over 10 years experience who have problems with arthritis in their hands due to "popping pills" for so many years.

Ohhhh...so, it WILL get worse?? I will consider getting the gel inserts. Nice shoes...I've already spent money on things that have murdered my feet, but I'll keep trying. Are you saying that they have arthritis in the hands because they are opening pill bottles, or because they are working on their hands all of the time?? Oh...the horrors of it all...

My feet burn, but what is worse is the pain I have from my thighs & calf form pushing that darn Med Cart all over the unit. Most of the wheels go off in different directions making control very difficult.

I would suggest seeing a podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment of foot pain. Family physicians and orthopedists just don't seen to be the best choice for this problem.

Also there are numerous threads on foot pain, plantar fasciitis, etc. Try searching those to find some suggestions.

I have foot pain when I am at work. However, my feet are pain-free at the beginning of my shifts, then they become progressively sore as the hours pass. I purchased a pair of New Balance tennis shoes about 3 to 4 weeks ago, and they have helped greatly. They are lightweight, and the foot soreness is not too bad by the time my 16 hour shift has wrapped up.

I plan to see a podiatrist at my job within the next two weeks. One of the benefits of working in a clinic is that I can get professional courtesy. Thanks for the suggestion for searching for other threads...I'll start searching in a few days. :0)

Are your New Balance shoes all white? We can't wear sneakers, so, they have to fool the administrators.

Actually, my New Balance shoes are white and royal blue, which is probably the reason I obtained them at the clearance price of $22. However, the same store was selling new Balance sneakers that were white leather, and these shoes could quite possibly pass for traditional nurses shoes to the untrained eye.

The arthritis in the hands is due to the "bubble packs" of medicine. Every place I have worked here has medication distributed in this fashion. We as nurses have to physically "pop" the meds out of the plastic wraper which , over time, wears on the joints on the hands.
