My CROCS made me fall tonight..

Ok. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Walking along in your Crocs and you suddenly hit the front of your shoe against the floor causing you to trip.
It appears to me that the material Crocs are made from are AbSoLuteLy skid proof to a fault! They don't skid, they Stop you in your tracks.
Now this evening while I was taking a chart to the Unit clerk with orders, my foot suddenly stopped and I fell straight to the floor. I laid there for a min then laughed with embarrassment..but then staff came to me to help me up. My Crocs did it!
Its been a problem for awhile now and I'm finally taking the time to post here about it. I even thought about doing a hospital wide survey to see if others have the same problem. One of the Techs with me tonight said she has the very same problem...

SO. Do your Crocs make you trip???

Be careful! I broke my wrist in Dansko a few years ago. I fell when I hit a piece of rubbish on the floor. The Dansko had a narrow heel at that time. I understand they are better now but "once bitten twice shy". Unsafe shoe are a hazard to you and your patients.

Echoing this post, I've tripped over my own feet in every kind of shoe I've ever owned.

My conclusion is that it's not the shoes - at least in my case.

Re: My CROCS made me fall tonight..

I've found out the hard way that not walking properly while wearing my Crocs does not work in my favor. I'll trip over my toe every time. However, I think the good grip and comfort outweigh any negatives associated with me being lazy and not picking up my feet.

I've had instances whereI almost trip myself. But i'm a tennis player so my foot coordination and balance quickly redirect my feet before I fall on my face.

Yep, I'm always tripping in my CROCS in the same way....haven't hit the floor yet though!! It only happens when I get a little tired and drag my feet a little....the little "warning" trip wakes me right up again! LOL! I won't give up my CROCS for anything!

Re: My CROCS made me fall tonight..

I believe I've seen another poster call that the "Croc stop". I can't tell you how many times I have tripped over my own feet wearing my Crocs - I thought it was just me until I watched two other RNs do the same during the same shift. I haven't caused myself any serious injury, other than maybe some mild embarrassment, but I may have just been lucky enough not to have a serious fall.

I recently purchased a pair of Dansko clogs - no tripping anymore. Not as comfy as my Crocs, but no tripping...

Yep...I've been stopped short by my crocs too! Never hit the floor though. Now I don't work in the hospital but I still wear them when I am out and about and don't have the stoppage problem too much.

I thought I read a thread here that mentioned that some hospitals are banning the crocs....

Ditto. I have yet to actually hit the floor, but I have tripped in Nikes, New Balance, flip flops of various brands, Avias, Rykas, SpringSteps (like Danskos)... the list goes on and on. I've been excited to try crocs once I get out of school, but since I fall in every other shoe I own, I'm not that worried about falling in crocs in particular, I guess.
