Thumbs up I Love My Crocs!!

I know we've discussed shoes here a number of times; I've been a die-hard New Balance fan for years now, and I still love them. But last weekend I discovered Crocs, at the local Hallmark store of all places........sure, they're butt-ugly, but when I tried on a pair, it was like stepping into Heaven! They weigh absolutely nothing, are simple even for an 'ample' girl like me to put on (no bending over to tie shoes!), have those little nubby 'massaging' things on the bottoms, are antimicrobial and easy to clean---what else could a hardworking med/surg nurse want?

So I worked my first shift in them today, and for the first time in I don't know how long, my back doesn't ache tonight, and I may even be able to sleep without taking pain medication for my poor overworked feet and legs. I bought a pair in white, but I like them so well I may go back and get several more pairs in different colors........Why did it take me so long to try these darned things? I'd heard of them, checked them out online once, and even asked a couple of co-workers what they thought of theirs, but I was so comfortable in the NB shoes that I didn't want to experiment. I've always had a hard time finding shoes that both fit properly and don't cost an arm and a leg; the Crocs were $30, and I figure if I buy another pair and switch them every couple of shifts, it'll cost me only as much as one good pair of sneakers, and they'll last longer. What a deal, huh?

Re: I Love My Crocs!!

i've been wearing my crocs for almost a year now. I refuse to wear anything else to work. I LOVE THEM. no more sore feet. I have dansko's at at least 100 bucks each, birkenstocks, and more pairs of other "nursing shoes" than i want to even think about, and nothing is as comfortable as my 30 dollar crocs.'

by the way, there are several new styles available.

Re: I Love My Crocs!!

I have even seen some girls at my school wearing them with their jeans and t-shirt. I like them too. Does somebody have their official website?

I'd love to try some, but we can't wear open back shoes to clinical

Silly question, but did the girls at school wear socks with them??

You can buy them without holes on top. My first pair didn't have holes. But buddy, the holes feel good when the air flows through there! It took me over a month to get the balls to wear my croc's that had holes. I just knew the night I wore them that someone would pee or puke on my feet- no such thing yet.
Yes, I wear socks with my crocs.

We are not allowed to wear them during clinicals neither. Too bad. It was hot here in Texas, so they were not wearing any socks on. It really looked cute. One wore dark blue crocks with jeans and t-shirt, and I have seen some girls that matched the color of their crocks with their shirts (orange, green and red). I guess it has become the "IT" thing here. Thank you for the website.

Re: I Love My Crocs!!

I love my Crocs too, I have three pairs now. I couldn't imagine wearing them (I have the kind with holes on top) in Med/Surg. I'm not afraid of baby spit or poo getting on me though. I always wear socks with mine and I wear them anywhere even away from work.

One issue I've had is the heelstrap doesn't seem to be made a consistent size and when worn up over the top of the shoe it was too tight. Maybe it's the shape of my foot (fat foot) but one pair is fine and the other two the strap was too tight. Being raised on practicality I just cut the straps off. Right above the little "joint" that swings the strap. Anyway I love them and have worn nothing else since about April.

Re: I Love My Crocs!!

I wear them also. Light, comfortable, and inexpensive. The problem that I have had is if you step in water or on a wet surface. Talk about a ride. I found out the hard way that it is difficult balancing on one foot, while your other foot is slipping away from you rather quickly while carrying 50# of dog food. I did it though! Maybe there isn't as many wet spots in huaman hospitals as there are in vet. hospitals.
