Foot Update

I am now wearing my New Balance sneakers with the new orthotics and they feel freaking GREAT!! I am literally bouncing around the clinic, am starting to walk again and I promised myself to never allow my feet to destroy me again. I ordered some quality shoes from Zappos.com and they are all orgasmic to my healing phalanges. Purchased two pair of Nautica shoes (black and brown) for casual wear and Keene sandals for the summer. I felt to get these things now, so that I don't have to purchase any more shoes for the next 4-5 years, and if there is any care that needs to be addressed to take them to the shoe repair, pronto! The nurses I work with noticed the vast improvement and I gave them the name of my podiatrist and begged them to go for an evaluation and get a letter for sneakers the same as I did.

I worked for 15 days straight and only got some foot pain by Saturday (totally understandable for the amount of days I worked in addition to some rainy weather), so, when I got home, I elevated my feet and placed an ice water bottle to my heels and within about a 1/2 hour, the inflammation went down and I felt great. In the morning, I taped my feet the same way the doctor taught me and I was ready to go. Even the stinky ADN that told me to get the letter noticed the difference.

Nurses, do NOT let your feet destroy you. Get them evaluated, get the shoes that you need to make you feel better for both, work and play, and get some quality of life returned to you. It is SO worth it! And, your feet will appreciate and honor you.

Re: Foot Update

What exactly was wrong with your feet?
I am dealing with foot issues right now.The metatarsal joint of both my great toes is bending inward as I walk causing my foot to pronate and putting pressure on the other metatarsal heads. I have been to the chiropodist and my orthotics are going to be ready next week. I am encouraged hearing how much yours have helped. I am also going to replace my 10 month old New Balance shoes with a new pair so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have been using ice on my feet as well but I only get minimal relief and am still in some pain.

I am glad to hear that you have gotten relief and are feeling much better. Surprisingly foot problems don't come up very often on these forums.

Re: Foot Update

I am so happy for you.

I ruined my feet working 12 hour shifts last summer in crappy shoes. Gave me PF that still hurts almost a year later! I got some Danskos and for me they totally are awesome--no more foot or back pain whatsoever, I am sold.

Nurses, take care of your feet!!

I'll have to look at the model off of the package at home. I purchased them at a Models sporting goods store, though. I'll PM it to you.

I have plantar faciitis and heel spurs. What my podiatrist did in addition to telling me about the orthotics and ice water bottles is to tape my feet to decrease the inflammation and instructed me to take Aleve. I had a script for Naproxen, but it really started screwing up with my stomach, so, my doc told me that the Aleve would probably serve the same purpose, but it is less milligrams-it is working so far. Good luck with your feet!
