First Year Nurses, what footwear do you swear by?
|
|
Hey everyone,
I just have to say, these 12 hour shifts are killing me, my feet and lower legs hurt soooo much after work...OH yeah, let's not forget the dreadful backpain . Well, I posted this thread just to get an idea of what type of footwear you guys are wearing at work. Also, are your shoes comfortable? What's the name, price, how long have you been using them, and where can I find them (web or not)?
Thanks Much!!!

Crocs
they are very comfy- and my feet dont end up throbbing like they used to when I used to wear sneakers!
$30
using them 4 months
I bought them at Macy's department store. But you can also get them from the web. "footgear.com" (I think! I'm not sure, I know I saw them in the catalog)

Dansko professional clogs, cost me a little over $100, have had about 8 or 9 months. My feet and back feel really good after 12 hours shifts, believe it or not. They took a few days to break in but I felt a difference immediately and I absolutely love them. They also come in narrows in case you have super narrow feet like me. Worth every penny.

Danskos, with compression socks.
I have two pairs I wear all the time for work and rotate (keeps them smelling better). I could not make it without my Danskos. I bought my first pair in nursing school. They are heavy relatively speaking, but they are also made for things nurses do, like stand around on hard floors a lot.
The compression socks help my feet from swelling if I'm on them a lot.
I even have a pair of "non-hospital" Danskos I wear when I'm off. Two of my favorite SCI physiatrists wear them, so if they think they're good, I'd guess they are.

New Balance athletic shoes . . . They're reasonably priced, and very comfy.
They're so comfy that my feet still feel good after standing in them for 16 hours.

I used danskos for about 4 years and loved them, but felt that they didn't hold up as long as I wanted. So I switched to Klogs brand. They are great and keep leg pain away, the only problem is they make my feet sweat and when the insoles wear out it's all over for me. So then I got these new inovative shoe called the MBT's which are supposed to simulate walking on moss and sand. I paid a pretty penny for them and my feet hurt so bad in them so that was $200 down the drain. AND I am back to good ole Danskos. So I guess it is Danskos for me.
