Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

Help!!! I paid a ton of money for these dansko shoes because everyone said they were so great. The tops of my feet are killing me! I have worn them twice and both times, terrible pain on tops of my feet all the way to my middle toe. A friend suggested pads for the tops of my feet that you can buy at a shoe store but it has been almost a week since I last wore those shoes and my feet are still hurting. I'm a size 7 1/2 american shoes but these come in either 37 for size 6 1/2 to 7 or 38 for size 7 1/2 to 8. I bought the 38 hoping bigger would be better.
Any advice out there?

Talking Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

I had problems at first with my Danskos until I broke them in which took a good month. They didn't hurt the tops of my feet though. Seems like my middle toe is a tad bit longer than the rest of them and it tends to rub and now I have two calouses on them. I won't be buying another pair. Do you know if you can get a refund?

Sorry your having problems.

Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

I also wear size 7 1/2 US and wear size 39 Danskos. They are supposed to be roomy in the back. They reccomend a fngers width at the back of the shoe. I have many pairs and love them. It took awhile to get used to them...and yes I bought size 38 before and killed me feet for a week too. I sold them to a nursing student...cheap but got some money for them

Sorry you had to learn the hard way too. Happy healing,

I have high arches and had some trouble like you have with my Dansko clogs. I wear a size 37. I had the tops of the shoes stretched by a shoe repairman and it helped tremendously. There are just some shoe styles that don't work well with high arches!
Another idea, if you really don't like them, is sell them on Ebay.

Getting them stretched might help.

I think it's assanine to make your feet hurt to break in a pair of shoes, i know some people have said this about Birkies and Danskos, but that CANNOT be good to do that to your feet.

Resell them on ebay and buy some walking sneakers. I've tried nursing shoes of various brands and other than my Crocs none are comfortable. The walker shoes like Nike or Reeboks worked best for me. (I wear my crocs all the time now cause I can't wear tennis shoes where I work currently).

Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

definitely sell them on ebay...someone will buy them. I would, if they were my size.

I love my Danskos, I never tried the ones with the backs. I'm a clog-girl all the way. I wouldn't want to chance spending the $$ on the ones w/ the back. I can only wear backless when I work (anything else hurts my feet). It did take me a couple of shifts to break them in. But not the nd pair (I guess my feet needed to get used to them).

My friend just found out she has a stress fracture in her ankle/heel area (I'm not sure which bone). She was having pain for about 3 weeks, and the MRI confirmed. The ortho said it's probably from wearing clogs . She works in the ER.

Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

It only took me two days to break in my danskos; sounds like you may have the wrong size!

Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

I have the Dansko clogs. The stitching irritates the bottoms of my feet right through my socks. I also don't feel secure in them when I need some speed like running to codes.

Re: Dansko Shoes are killing my feet!!!

It takes a while for your feet to get used to Danskos. You're supposed to break them in by wearing them for 1 hour the first day, 2 hrs the next 3 and so on. Wear them around the house for a week or so before trying them at work. Danskos are great for standing, but if you do a lot of walking (I'm a nurse tech and a nursing student, so I'm all over the hospital), they can take even longer to get used to. I was doing great for 6 hour clinicals, but since having 3 weeks off at Christmas and just starting to work 8 and 12 hour shifts, my feet have had to learn to adjust again.

I have a pair of open-backed Danskos as well, but I wear them casually w/jeans. I'd be afraid they'd fly off my feet on the floor!

I suggest buying your first pair from a store that specializes in Danskos/Birkenstocks, etc. The salespeople are trained in getting a proper fit. Don't buy off a website unless you have already been fitted in a store.
