Best Shoes

Hello,
I am wondering what shoes to buy for my first pair of nursing shoes. I have some nursemates and I like them but it took a while to break them in...let me know what you recommend! Also I'm about 5 weeks pregnant right now so comfort is important!

Re: Best Shoes

Ironically, the best shoes that I have found for the constant "pounding" and standing that we do with our feet - on & off the floor - are actual running shoes. Depending on where you work there are a variety of shoes you can get. However, if you work in a place that requires "whites" - go with a running shoe like a cheap Reebok with good soles - just replace the inner sole with a pair of "Superfeet" orthodics. These are based on the "rigidity" and support you need. The actual orthodics you can get at places like Road Runner sports or Sports Chalet.

But if your place of employment or school allows running shoes - do the orthodic anyway, but pick up a pair of ASICS Kyano or DS Trainers. Those are the best running shoes that I have used on my rounds. These are highly recommended by die-hard runners who train and train - the shoes do the job really well! They provide stability and balance, and with the added support your feet don't feel like "hands" at the end of a shift.

Best of luck...

Re: Best Shoes

I bought a pair of Danskos Professionals right before I started nursing school....2 years later, they are still in great shape!

They didn't take long to break in. I did put the white cushion in them, but that's optional...I also wear knee-high support hose. My feet really don't hurt at all when I wear then, but I can sure feel a difference when I wear my flip flops, etc around the house!

I plan to get a pair of Danskos clogs to wear as an everyday shoe after I start working!
