pockets?

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum here and thought this would be a great place to start. I'm 5' 10" and weight about 165. I've been looking for anything with more pockets! I work in an ER. I'm tired of my lab coat and what little that carries. I wear both cotton and poly/cotton scrubs so I don't have much preference when it comes to material. Either feel fine to me. I've got a medium build so not too bulky and not too thin. I can usually find something that fits okay.

Any ideas?

Re: pockets?

You should try to get scrubs from the same place that the flight nurses get them. I think this is a website with scrubs with more pockets, but I have no personal experience with them.

Re: pockets?

Thanks for the reply. I'll check it out. I also saw the related links at the bottom of the page that talked about what others are doing and using. I've seen people use fanny packs and aprons as well but I don't think they'll do the trick.

Re: pockets?

I wear paramedic or cargo pants in the unit, a holdover from my ER days. I usually wear the cargo pants, they have two front pockets, two back pockets, and two cargo pockets.

PDA, trauma shears, and small kellys in left front cargo pocket
Five to ten 10ml saline flush syringes in the right front cargo pocket

Alcohol swabs in the right front pocket
Tubex goes in the left front along with any PRN meds I expect to need like lidocaine, ativan, versed, or SL NTG

cardex/reports go in the right rear, folded of course
The left rear is usually empty

A red and black pen and sharpie go in the breast pocket.

Re: pockets?

A friend of mine in ICU was wearing one of these vests last night. Has anyone tried one of these?

It depends on where you work. In my hospital, only OR and L&D have scrubs provided. The rest of us buy our own, including the ICUs.

I'm sorry but can you explane the abbrevations to me (OR/L&D/ICU) (EDIT... ICU = intensive care unit? ... OR operation rooms?... ) In the netherlands every nurse must wear the scrub that your hospital provides to you.
[/offtopic]

I can understand that you need more pockets, if I look at myself and what I carry in my pockets during work.... pfff sometimes the jacket of my scrub just doesn't close ... or one side is lower than the other .
