How do you feel about women wearing scrub pants with knit tops instead of scrub tops with pockets and a v-neck? Do you think it looks professional? Should they be MADE to wear a lab coat over the top? Do you have rules about this where you work?

Personally, I don't care one way or the other as long as the top is tasteful, modest, and goes well with the pants.

Sounds fine to me... in fact, I'd prefer to dress that way myself since I have yet to try on a scrub top that is comfortable and looks nice. I don't consider scrub tops to look any more or less professional than a knit top.

As far as I know my hospital has no rules about the practice, but I have had clinicals at another hospital that required knit tops only be worn underneath a scrub top or jacket. I am not sure what the rationale was behind that decision, but I don't have a strong opinion on it one way or the other.

I dont beleive that a healthcare worker should be allowed to wear regular clothes on the job, as its almost, well it should be an OSHA standard for healthcare workers to wear scrubs while working with patiets. I dont beleive in wearing other clothes that are not scrubs, but thats not why I beleive that. Its because healthcare workers get exposed to every germ put there ,and scrubs are made for when you spill stuff on you, so your clothes dont get ruined. I also think that people shoudnt toss their scrubs even if they get stuff on it, because they can just wash it, as scrub fabric is very stain resistant, so stains come out very easily most of the time.

My hospital allows hospital logo t-shirts to be worn with scrub pants. Many nurses wear them.
I prefer the look of a scrub top or a more tailored uniform top.
The t-shirts can make a nurse look dumpy and frumpy, especially if the t-shirt should have been retired long ago. Scrub tops stand up to hard wear better.

I have a selection of generously-sized crew neck t-shirts that I reserve strictly for wearing to work. One thing about t-shirts is that when I bend over the bed, the patient or anyone on the other side of the bed can't see right down my neck to my shoes like they can with many of the scrub tops that fit my shoulders and across my hips. And if you think scrubs don't stain, well you've obviously never worn them anywhere near pyridium, rifampin, povidone or an assortment of components in vomit.

We have a lot of pregnant nurses and when their bellies get big enough, they usually opt for a basic long sleeved shirt or t-shirt. Sometimes they were the button up scrub jacket things over the top.
