I think the easiest way (and the way most likely to fit into a dress code) is to buy solid colored scrubs in sets, and then embellish them.
Personally, I've always wanted to do some custom hand embroidery. It's not as complicated as you think. You can print-off, say, the character or game logo you want onto iron-on transfer paper. Two key things - use the right paper for your printer (i.e. laser or inkjet), and try to pick a design with simple lines (at least at first). You can get iron-on transfer paper which will wash-out after the first wash, as well. Iron on your design (I think over the breast, on the sleeve, mid upper back, at the pant cuff are all good placements). Embroidery is pretty simple, and there are a lot of resources online available to assist you.
Me, I just want to embroider
something silly like these in a really subtle place on a few pairs of scrubs and see what happens. *giggle*
