Wild Color Stethoscope?

Do you think, if I buy a fun colored stethoscope like pink or orange, people won't take me seriously?

Re: Wild Color Stethoscope?

I can't see that being a problem. I've seen so few nurses with black stethoscopes...I have a purple one so it's not REALLY flashy, but I really don't think anyone notices the color. I just didn't want a black one because I wanted SOME variety in color with the white uniform, socks, and shoes

I wanted a bright colored one too but had a hard time finding one. I finally found a pink one online. It looked like bubble gum pink online. When I received it I thought it was more pastel pink. It was a breast cancer awareness limited edition. I was a little disappointed because it wasn't bright enough. I never gave the brightness/serious thing any consideration. I think if you have come this far in the program then everyone should know you are daxx well serious. lol Good luck. I found mine at Allheart.com

i honestly feel that if your worried about people taking you seriously because of the color of your stethoscope you have much bigger problems. dare to stand out! or just be yourself.

My family got me a turquoise one when I graduated and it just recently bit the dust.

I have always wanted a black one - I like simplicity.

Snoozie, I had my eye on that pink one too. I bet there aren't too many of them out there, making it a good choice for not getting lost.

It also comes in orange.

I didn't know if it would be too "cutie pie" to have a wild color. But I'm going for it, after I decide which one has the best sound.

Hidid, I'll have that all-white thing going on too, and any color will help!

Murse, I would respectfully argue that awareness of how you present yourself is part of "having a clue" and doesn't indicate having problems. I'm a new student and I don't "have a clue" yet, regarding hospital culture.

One of mine was blue, I took red electrical tape and ran a spiral like a candy cane, had a koala super glued to the earpiece and my name engraved.....it walked. I've had my Card III longer than just about any of them....plain old black, but it doesn't get loaned to ANYone. Let them call you names, you'll still be the Nurse who kept her steth.

A nurse I worked with had a candy cane striped steth. She said her last few walked off with docs, but this one she can spot around their necks before they get out of the unit.

Re: Wild Color Stethoscope?

...if you have a neon one you can tell your pts. that way you can see it in the dark. (I work nights). I respect that you don't want a pt. to question your competancy or skills if you were to have a funky stethescope, we must balance our preferences to what our pts. expectations are...within reason.

...when I was having my baby at Tripler Army Medical Center in 1977, one of the OB docs doing Sunday morning rounds wore a boob tube and short-shorts, her hair long, and sandals. While she was expert in her field, it would have been better to at least cover up on rounds with a white coat so that the post-partum moms didn't have to compare their just-given-birth bods to her ready-for-the-beach demeanor.

...consideration and balance.
