Re: What stethoscope do you have?

I had a Littman for about 4 years out of nursing school. It sprouted legs and I have not seen it since. I currently have a $20 Sprague style with a pedi and adult bell. It works for my current job just fine. However, when I'm in the nursery, the hospital has neonatal/preemie ones just for use in there.

I have never EVER left it folded in my pocket that I can remember. Too annoying. Plus it doesn't fit what with all the other crap in my pockets. If I have a newborn steth, I sometimes wear it in the Classic II style. It's not too heavy and doesn't get in my way. With my big steth, I modify the consultant look & stick the bell in my pocket. Less annoying that way. Most of the time, though, it's on the desk or @ the nurses station if I'm not using it. It gets in the way too much.

Re: What stethoscope do you have?

I'm using a Peds Littman today b/c I'm on Mother-Baby, and it's easier to hear those big ole' NBs w/.

I'm wearing it over one shoulder when it's not @ the desk. I have the "curse" on it: "STEAL THIS AND YOUR LOINS WILL GO NUMB!!", so hopefully it won't walk off.

That Sprague would be a nightmare for me--waaaay too heavy!!

Which is why it spends most of its time banished to the nurses station when I'm not assessing anybody. I bought it cause it was cheap and I was poor at the time....still am, sort of. Now I'm just too cheap to buy a new one!

That's the one I would get if someone ever took me shopping and told me to pick out the steth of my dreams. For now, the Sprague will do.

I have 3 cheapies. . .

One is a $4.95 Prestige model that was issued to me while in school.

Another is a $16 NurseMates double-tubed black stethoscope.

The final one is a $34 Prestige Cardiac Light that weighs 4 ounces.

Re: What stethoscope do you have?

I have an Adscope? LOL>.some friends gave it to me because it had clear tubing and I thought it was cute...LOL

Do people really wear the "consultant"??? Iwould think that style is slightly dangerous... Reminds me of a surgeon i think purposefully wear tight scrub pants and then tucks his top in....:

Re: What stethoscope do you have?

I am a final-semester nursing student; I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful husband (a doctor) who gave me the Littman Cardiologist Electronic Stethoscope with a built-in digital amplifier...though this was a little silly for a first-year nursing student to carry around (you can imagine the stares from doctors, with more than one of them asking what I was doing with such an instrument ), and it was very hard to learn to use (because it picks up EVERYTHING), this stethoscope has opened up a whole new world for me...I plan on going on to become a NP in cardiology, solely because of this stethoscope. I simply can't get enough of it...however, it is very expensive and i spend alot of energy taking care that I don't leave it somewhere. Also, it doesn't hang as comfortable around the neck.
