Re: What color Stethoscope to buy?

I got a Baby Pink Littman Classic II SE. It's SO cute!! It does show the dirt though... but that doesn't mean that darker colors dont get dirty! I look at it as a reminder to clean my stethoscope to make it look cute again

Where is all this "dirt" talk coming from?? Someone earlier mentioned their light coloured scopes getting "neck dirt" on them...maybe instead of limiting your scope colours, you should just shower regularly?

Re: What color Stethoscope to buy?

apnea- "Dirt" gets on your stethoscope whether or not you shower daily. There's the natural oil of your skin and fingers when you use the 'scope, there's the dirt where you lay your stethoscope down on, there's "dirt" on the patient. It's not actually "dirt." It's just random things that accumulate on your stethoscope. The really light stethoscopes, like my really light baby pink one, show it a lot more readily than even a fairly light one. This is why you're supposed to clean your stethoscope daily with alcohol for good maintenaince and good hygiene. Some stethoscopes don't show it as much depending on the tubing material. This happens with a lot of nurses/aids/students at the hospital, it's the law of stethoscope-- it gets dirty

Ah yeah I do shower every day and sometimes twice and there is dirt on my pink one. Some of the dirt is pen, there's some markings that we can't figure out what they are but a friend with the same scope has them.

Now if that isn't enough dirt and we want to dig into showering...at the end of the day take some facial toner on a cotton ball and wipe the back of your neck. Hello natural oils. Natural oils will discolor things.

I bought myself a burgandy Littman Cardio III. I also got my name put on it. And I love it it is so comfortable.

Re: What color Stethoscope to buy?

My first year and a half of nursing school, I had a double tubed navy Sprague scope. That thing was sooo heavy and ugly, so instead of springing for a new scope, I spruced it up a little with a cover that has sushi all over it. Great conversation starter with my patients.

Last christmas, my wonderful fiance got me a new one that's much lighter, cuter, and really stood out from our awful white uniforms.

My entire last semester, everyone---patients, nurses, doctors---commented on how cute it was. The acoustics on it were fantastic, but not nearly as pricey as an Ultrascope! I will be springing for a pink or teal ultrascope as soon as I pass my boards, though!

I'm thinking Maroon - cos it was the colour of my old school uniform.

Or something so disgustingly repugnant that no one would want to nick it.

Re: What color Stethoscope to buy?

Oh someting else to consider when buying a 'scope... some of the ones with double toubing have little metal pieces that hold the tubing together, but they don't clasp all the way together at the ends. Sometimes these little pieces will catch your hairs I had a Sprague one in CNA class that did that.

A purple Littman because:

1. I like purple (my sorority color)
2. I figured it'd make an interesting match with the trim on our student uniforms
3. It will be easier to keep track of in the sea of black stethoscopes
4. The color plus engraving helps make it less likely to "walk away"

Re: What color Stethoscope to buy?

My entire class bought colored stethoscopes. Most bought dark colored ones. I watched almost the entire class order theirs and I noticed the cantaloupe one wasn't ordered and the color was adorable(light orange) so I ordered it feeling I would stand out for sure and wouldn't you know it, the last girl in the class ordered the same color! Good thing though is that my neighbor works in a doc's office and pharm reps are always bringing cute gadgets in so she got me this clock/id tag that fits on the tube of my steth and seperates me from the rest.
