Assistance - Stethoscope cleaning

Hi,
I'm writing up a teaching project about stethoscope cleaning, and how it prevents contamination. I was wondering if anyone has information on this subject.
I need to write about goals which would be to reduce the number of microorganisms, and to prevent cross contamination, but I'm having a brain block on how I go about measuring these goals and also evaluating the goals. I also need a time frame or deadline to accomplish the goals.
I'd appreciate any help thanks.
