Question? - Stethoscope Advices

Hey guys!

I bought the Master Classic from Littman and it works great. However, my instructor said that I cannot use the tunable diaphram, and that I needed to get the double sided stethoscope...

I'm looking at the Littman Class II. My brother has one, but it's okay...not all that great...

Anyone have advices on the DRG... Doctor's Research Group Puretones...
or the ADC American Diagnostic Corp 601...?

Thanks guys and gals

Re: Stethoscope Advices

Anything from Littmann and you can't go wrong. They are great scopes and are excellent in quality. Your instructor is prob not wanting you to use the tunable diaphragm because she may feel it can't be used on peds or infants. But, it can be done. When you get to your peds rotation, she may want you to have a scope with a bell (smaller second side that your can turn to), but a Littmann Classic II or others will work just fine. The ADC scopes are also of good quality, but I do prefer Littmann (just my preference; they are also heavier than littmanns too). If you are allowed to use this scope during your other clinicals then do so, but if they want you to have something different for peds, I woul just suggest buying a cheap dual-head or single-head from the local pharmacy for about $5-10.

Re: Stethoscope Advices

I had a DRG scope all during school, and for about 3 months after I began working. I HATED it! It was the only scope that my bookstore had when I needed to purchase one, so that's what i had. The guy that sold it to me said it was comparable to the Littmann Classic II, but I don't think it was. I had such a hard time hearing anything with it. It picked up outside noises so much more! Sometimes i couldn't tell if it was my breath hitting the tubing or the pt's breath sounds! I have since purchased a Littmann Cardiology III, and love it!

Maybe try taking some alcohol wipes with you to where ever you're going to be purchasing your scope, and a willing friend, and see which ones you can hear with better. Most places I've been to will let you try them out, as long as you clean them after! Good luck finding your scope!

Re: Stethoscope Advices

Thanks guys!

I'm acutally just starting nursing shcool and looking for a reliable one...but not too expensive...

The Littman Class II seems to be the most popular...

But the ADC 601 seems great too....

Hrm... I'll make sure to stay away from the DRG
