Hello! I need to purchase a stethescope that is adult/pediatric.......has anyone purchased one like this? Please let me know which kind! TIA!!

Hi there!

I found a good thread about purchasing stethoscopes: Stethoscopes for new nurse's.

I personally have a Littmann Cardiology III and it works great for both adults and Peds.

BUT, I've tried the basic, run of the mill stethoscopes and they work great, too! It's all about how much money you want to spend.

I also have the Littmann Cardiology III and it is for both adults and peds. This stethoscope has been one of the best purchases I've made thus far.

I have the Littmann Classic II SE and so far no complaints however the most ped usage it has gotten is on my own kids for practice lol I've been happy with it tho

I was a little worried that I would have to spend $$$$ for one.....some reviews say the less expensive ones are a harder to hear with. I found one called Sprague 5 In One Stethoscope that I think I might purchase, it's only $39.95. I was just confused as to how you know if the stethoscope was adult/pediatric. Did you need to change something...but I figured out (let me know if I'm wrong) that you just need to have a 2 sided chestpiece.

I believe there are 1 sided that can perform as a 2 sided, it's all in the pressure you use when pressing it to the pt, but I think that would just be one too many things to figure in clinicals lol

I bought a kila cardiology scope off of ebay for 20.00 I was a little leary but I have it and i can hear better out of it than I can my littman classic. They have a ton of them and they look just like the littman cardiology scopes, but cheaper.

You can go with the cheaper 12 dollar scopes and try cutting the tubing between 12" - 16" . A little tip from an ICU nurse from when my grandad passed away.
