When Fox News can't even say good things about you....

From TPM veracifier. Interesting compilation of media responses to Sen. McCain's response to Sen. Obama's presumptive nomination. The speech rang hollow and even Fox couldn't spin it for McCain.

This image of McCain's speech says volumes.

I could have titled this thread "With friends like these..."

i saw this speech and it was about distancing himself from bush on the katrina/rita
in new orleans that is still a sore spot..mccain brought up the fact that the governor and the mayor were democrats and then he threw bush under the bus [it is getting kinda crowded down there]

Re: When Fox News can't even say good things about you....

McCain is going to have to throw Bush under the bus if he wants to win this thing, IMHO.

I feel sorry for him in that way. He can't afford to ignore the far right, but if he gives them too much say in running his campaign, he'll alienate a much bigger segment of the voting population, namely the swing voters who are understandably nervous about the huge changes Obama proposes, but who desperately want relief from Bush and his policies.

I see McCain as basically an honorable man who possesses the pragmatism of age and experience, a pragmatism that would serve us well in future dealings with the Middle East especially. He knows we can't just pull out of Iraq and leave it to fend for itself without destroying the fragile infrastructure of democracy that has taken over five years and 4,000 American lives to build. But telling the American people that he's going to keep us there indefinitely is NOT going to win him this election. I don't claim to speak for all swing voters, but this is one who wants my next President to disavow Bush and all his works.........and if it means holding my breath and pulling the lever for Obama, that is what I will do.

Actually the point of the post is how the Pravda of the Republican Party wasn't exactly saying good things about Sen. McCain after his speech.

As I said with friends like these who needs enemies. (Marla I agree that Sen. McCain is basically a good man. I hope it is clear from my posts that it is his policy positions and associates I disagree with not him as a person.)

He has embraced Bushism rather than distanced himself from the Bush years.

Yes, and that is why I'm no longer sure that I'll vote for him. I need to hear something from him that's more reassuring than recycled Bush doctrine, or what I call Bush Lite.

Here is what McCain was doing on August 29, 2005 as Katrina hit Louisiana and Mississippi:

The Shameful Irony of McCain'sNew Orleans Speech

Here's a shining example of what happens when McCain is called upon to break with his party and fix the "unresponsive bureaucracies of big government" (via Mark Ambinder):

It said that we don't know who Obama really is, do we know who McCain really is?

Not to change the thread topic too much, but I'm also disgusted (but not surprised) to find that Princess Liddy Dole also voted nay.

Pretty hard for Faux news to spin this phenomenon.
