Re: Obama In It, To Win It(White House, Here We Come!)

I think that that is the problem -- the stance of radical fundamentalists -- of any stripe is not that of the majority, but sometimes they have such a stranglehold on the public discourse the direction of some political parties/politicians.
The point I was trying to make with the Yes on 8 post was this was their legal council their job was not a religious one, and therefore to hire a company that says "you are either like us or we don't want you around, even if you're the best lawyer in the world" for a secular role is alienating to those who do have have the same belief system. It sends a message that "we don't care, and we don't need you." So the response from that conservative Jew was "if you don't want me, you don't get my money or support either."
I am fine with people having different views from me, but when they start insisting that I share their views because they have the Right, True, and Only Way, I get angry....and scared.
Having the head of the Jews for Jesus people at your church will not make me feel welcome.
Having the head of the "ex-gay" movement at your church will make really uncomfortable.
You can be the best conservative christian in the world, just leave my lefty, queer, pagan/jewish a** alone to live my life as I see proper.
peace

Having grown up in LA and moved as soon as I graduated HS, all I can say is So. Cal can be an evil, toxic place.
I hope once I'm done w/my PhD and post-doc I can come back to the PNW 'cause it's felt like home from day 1.
Come back and visit sometime!

Yes Los Angeles is toxic and all that mind over matter crap is getting to me. If not for my kiddies, and my bike I probably would have lost it awhile ago. We live in W. Hollywood, and there is a pretty diverse crowd....but it's not sea-town

I'm actually in Portland -- little slower, smaller and greener. The hardest is the lack of diversity, although that's changing.
Lived in L.A. proper, almost Silverlake area. Griffith Park was my salvation growing up.

Portland is a cool town, I personally love going up to Multnohma Falls, hiking and having a few drinks up on the hills up there. But you're right it lacks in diversity. The biggest problem Im having with WeHo is my daughters school, she reports antisemitism almost everyday. It's scary. This was exactly the kind of thing I don't want her exposed to. My spouse is a PS resident and what better place to learn but Los Angeles. you see a lot. That said, my impression of the city has changed a lot. With us being a mixed race/faith couple, I know we can't live just anywhere... So hopefully we can head up towards your way someday.
