i think it is awesome that so many people are rocking the vote this year. i did not vote in the last election and am ashamed to admit it. i was very excited to be part of this election because either way it goes, it will be historical.
i do agree that the bail out bill was slightly rediculous, but i think that if we had not done it that it would have put the country into worse financial turmoil.
i was raised in a republican household and have parents who thought GWB was the best thing since sliced bread in the year 2000.... until the year 2001. my daddy was a stock broker in the 2nd tower of the WTC. he survived only by the grace of god. although they dont generally like senator obama, my parents, the once conservative republicans, think voting for senator mccain would be 8 more years of GWB. and i agree. i know that alot of people are sick of hearing about change, but we need it!!
i dont even want to comment on how scared sarah palin makes me. sometimes i wonder if she lives on the same planet as the rest of us.
my boyfriend and i combined make enough money as to where we fit into the 30% bracket. the federal govenment takes their share based on our income and leaves us living paycheck to paycheck, working overtime to make ends meet like sooooo many other americans. we have no savings. we have no credit cards. by the time we retire at the age of 90 (because 65 is out of the question) social security will be no more. we are just middle class and trying to survive. FAFSA says my EFC is $11,000 per year. i make a little over $30,000. because of that, i am swimming in debt to pay for school. i make too much to get help, and too little to survive. and im not the only one. someone needs to help us little fishes for once.
a friend of mine emailed this to me in regards to the buy out plan. i think it is an excellent idea.. i have no idea who this guy is:
The Birk Economic Recovery Plan
Hi Pals,
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bon-a-fide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college - it'll be there
Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobs
Invest in the market - capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG - liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion 'We Deserve It Dividend' more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .
And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.
Kindest personal regards,
Birk

I am sickened by the bailout, as well.
I think if there were no bailout, however, our entire economy could collapse. I'm sure the banks know this and were counting on it to get the vote passed. The bailout truly is the lesser of two evils.

I know you said outfit . . .. I think it makes a difference to differentiate what costs what in the "outfit". That's all.

Since you didn't present enough options,
I'd write in "Dr. Ron Paul".
cheers,
PS: I know here is contention as regards if my 'write in' vote is "counted in" or not. I vote my conscience.... it's the only way I'll have it. To vote for "the lesser of two evils, is still evil".
PPS: If I don't have a viable candidate I agree with as regards to my political beliefs - then I don't vote at all. I don't believe any of the propaganda about "YOU HAVE TO VOTE!" I won't ever sleep a peaceful nights sleep if ever I was "forced" to vote for someone I didn't agree to - my conscience would never allow it. A Constitutional Republic is never about forcing someone else to do something...

I am just SICK of the TV ads.
Could they just STOP stabbing each other in the back?
I don't see how any of these ads would change anyones vote. It makes them both look bad.

I agree. The pudits said it was going to get really ugly -- and it has. Some of those people should be ashamed of themselves.

Unfortunately, a vast number of americans only have the apititude to understand in terms of a silly commercial. It's really sad.
