i am against abortion unless it is the most extreme of circumstances.

w/o abortion, i shudder to see the stats of children born, only to be abused, neglected, some killed/dying, abandoned, and w/little chance of ever experiencing healthy bonding and parental love?

how many of these children, being born unwanted, will grow up in foster homes, runaways, taking to the streets, repeat members of the penal system, whoring themselves, junkies/alcoholics, mentally ill and permanently scarred, perpetuating these cycles to their own offspring?

and, which is more preferable?
some would say death/abortion.

i hate abortion.
but i'm realistic enough to recognize the tragedies that would/could afflict desperate women and/or those they give birth to...
only to be repeated generation after generation.

no easy answers.
we know that much.

The Pelosi-Reid gas premium for blocking energy independence is going to kill the Democrats. It's their Drill-nothing Congress and it's 9% approval rating that will do them in.

President Bush has an approval rating in the mid 30's. That's FOUR TIMES HIGHER than the Democrat Drill-nothing Congress.

Think about it.

The first Presidential candidate to advocate drilling in ANWR will be the next President.

Levitt & Dubner (Freakonomics) claim that Roe v. Wade is responsible for the decrease in crime, because the people most likely to have abortions, poor single mothers, are most likely to have children who become criminals. I am not citing this as a support for abortion. The pro-life conservatives are not too happy with that conclusion, but it takes more than just dislike to refute an argument.

Not only are liberals having more abortions, they are having fewer children. Arthur Brooks (Who Really Cares, Gross National Happiness) expects the country to become more conservative as a result. I was recently reading that some liberals dislike the term "childless", and are referring to themselves as "child-free". This would seem to support Arthur Brooks' argument. I am a conservative without children, but it has never occurred to me to describe myself as "child-free".

If I'm ever lucky enough to have children, I would hope to raise them in such a way that they grow up and learn to think and reason and make up their own minds - be they "conservative" or "liberal"... I mean after all, why limit them and their potential to one or the other?

Frankly, the way I see it, they're just labels anyhow.

My parents are very devout, very strict conservatives whereas I'm a decided un/non-believer who believes in individual liberty and individualism (being neither "liberal" nor "conservative" by today's defnitions - the label "libertarian" probably best describes my weltanschauung).
