Re: Clinton In It, To Win It (Brokered Convention, here we come!)

Had an interesting conversation today at a social function with a former classmate of "Barry's" at the uber-elite prep school he atended in Hawaii....
Sort of shoots holes in his "I'm a Brother and feel your pain" down in the hood persona!
But, my biggest concern is his naivete and lack of experience..
So I throw out:
1. Is Hillary done?
2. How will Joe Sixpack deal with a McCain-Obama showdown??
Let the discussion begin , class. No getting ugly, give your own opinion and the rationale behind it, please. Frankly, at this point I don't have a CLUE where this is going, but since writing in Elizabeth Dole or Condi Rice isn't an option, I'd like to hear what all ya'll think...but play nice!!

OK, let me be the first to put my neck out there for the chopping.I think Hillary is done, the numbers dont add up, she will never be able to get the delegates needed to win.
Obama will get Hillary's base when this primary is over, the unions will all endorse Obama, working class people belong to unions.Obama will get the Hispanic vote , some from Hillary and some of his own.IF Hillary is his running mate he will get her older females , they WONT vote for McCain, he is a conservative, his policies are too different from Hillarys.
Most folks will realize when it gets down to it that we as a nation cant keep dumping millions upon millions in the war, THAT is one of McCains biggest flaws. 2/3 of Americans want this war to be over and our economy to get back on its feet, wont happen with the black hole that keeps sucking away taxpayer dollars.
Oh yes, about Obama's being capable of being the President, he will learn what he doesnt already know and he will have MANY wise and experienced advisers around him,(unlike Bush). Bush managed to fake his way through 8 years and with limited intelligence, I am secure in the knowledge that Obama is at the very least a very intelligent person.

I like Condi Rice! Wish she was on a ticket.
And nope, Hillary's base will not vote for Obama. He loses those votes.
He is too inexperienced to "learn" in the white house. He can't even learn to control his own mouth (or his wife's mouth).
And just because people didn't like Bush doens't mean it's ok for anybody to go in and 'give it a try'.

No of course its not OK for just anybody to be president, Obama is not just anybody, he certainly is NOT of the same caliber as Bush. I cant, wont try to convince those who don't see Obama as presidential material, there are enough who do though and I think he will win the presidency.
Record numbers of Democrats have been coming out to vote, far more than Republicans, THAT says something. Why are the Republicans so worried now, especially since the three Congressional seats of long sitting Republicans were just lost to Democrats, it is backlash from the policies of the last 8 years and people are sick of it, that is why the "change" slogan resonates so loudly, that even the Republicans have adopted their own version of it, as in " A change we all deserve", which is BTW the same slogan that Effexor uses for their antidepressant.

That's the danger in all of this: The backlash against Bush is enormous---as well it should be---and the desire for something different is so strong, that Americans are apt to vote for whoever promises the biggest change. It's only human nature...........trouble is, it could be disastrous.
Not that Obama is a bad man, or has bad intentions. In truth, I think he's really a very good man with a good heart and the best of intentions. And if he does become President, I hope he will surround himself with experienced and talented advisers who will help him obtain the knowledge he needs to deal with the world we live in. Yes, JFK and Bill Clinton were also comparatively young and inexperienced when they were elected, but the world has become smaller, yet far more complicated and dangerous than it was even fifteen years ago (let alone 50).
I can understand why so many have fallen under the spell of this young orator, whose 'stage presence' and speaking skills make him one of the most impressive candidates to come along in my lifetime. I've listened to him on a number of occasions, and if I were a little younger or a little more idealistic, I too might have succumbed to his charms. He speaks of issues I care about, such as health care and ending the Iraq war. But I've reached a time in my life where style over substance doesn't cut it anymore...........and I will be doing a LOT of homework on both Obama and McCain before I make up my mind.
Just my worth.
