X-mas Gifts from the Manager - Any Ideas?

Hi,

I am a nurse manager over a 28 bed Med-Surg floor with about 30 people that work for me.

Anyways, I would like to get them all something they can all use. I want to show them that I do appreciate them and they are all valuable to me and the floor.

I know that many say that goodies are great - which I do plan on putting in their gift bags. However, I want to give them something that would last longer than that.

For those of you that will say an increase in pay - I'm all over it - but this will take time with admin.

Actual gift ideas is what I am looking for - I would like to give them gift bags with a few small things in it.

I am a very practical person - so here are some things that I have thought of:

Pen lights
lotion
Pens
chocolate (of course)
small flash drives (maybe)

As you can see -I am having a creativity mind block.

I would appreciate the Med Surg nurses input on this if possible.

Thanks,
Ginger

God love you....Sounds wonderful.

The only thing that comes to mind is that all gifts need to be of similar cost value to prevent any thought of favoritism.

Again, very nice of you.

Thank-you Thunderwolf,

That is my plan - I try very hard not to favor anyone and take pride in being fair.
What I get for one - I will get for all - unless it is something that the female staff would appreciate more than the male staff - then I will have to look at the cost and make it equal.

Okay - now for more ideas

The gift I liked the most was a clear, plastic clip board with a laminated sheet glued to it. One side of the sheet had important hospital info like phone numbers for certain units we called frequently (both numbers not just the one we used most), lab values of common and uncommon lytes, diabetic scale,
heparin scale, IV rates, site and tubing rule change policy in simple terms, clergy numbers, social worker numbers, just all sorts of helpful info we needed at a glance and could use from hall phones. The back of the sheet had a pretty picture printed on it. We all turned out clip boards over when not actually in our hands, so it was nice to look at something besides a brown piece of board. She gave us a pair if hemastats and scizzors too. I still use all of these today.

See my post under the manager's site. I give CD's with Christmas music that I "burn".

Re: X-mas Gifts from the Manager - Any Ideas?

As a diabetic, non-religious person ... I find this aspect of the season to be particularly problematic. I appreciate the kind thoughts, but I end up with a lot of crap I can't eat and/or don't really want. After a couple of years of having it clutter up my condo, I through it away or donate it to a thrift shop.

Is there a hospital gift shop or store from which you could get gift certificates? ... or Maybe get a bunch of gift certificates (or little gifts) and invite people to your office to come and choose one for themselves. Have a little "gift display" in your office and hold a few "open houses" in your office and invite your staff to visit you to chat so that you can express your appreciation in person. While they are there, they can pick one of the gifts (or gift cerificates) for themselves. As you see which gifts are most popular, you could buy a few more of those. You'll end up with a few extras in the end .. but you can always use them for other things later. You could serve refreshments ... make it festive and personally meaningful.

I don't know ... if was just an idea ... something different than the usual routine.
