Question Need cardiac med IV policy & procedure

Hello,

Does anyone know where I could find an example of a policy & procedure that addressess cardiac/vasoactive IV drugs for use specifically on the Medical-Surgical floor.

Am looking for resources and not finding anything and am in desperate need to develop policy.

Have one physician who thinks it's okay to run levophed & nitroglycerin on the floor and another who doesn't think we should run any!

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Need cardiac med IV policy & procedure

Hi,
On my unit we have a IV administration book...I believe provided by pharmacy. I also work on a medsurg floor that is not monitored...so certain meds ordered especially prescribed during an emergency, we can look at the book and tell the MD that the pt has to be on a monitor in order for a certain med to be pushed. I would check w/ pharmacy because certain meds can only be pushed in a critical area ie: lopressor but on MedSurg can be given in a IVPB.
Hope this helps
