An order should specify the kind of insulin. But, just as a refresher, other kinds of insulin are metabolized differently and so are contraindicated IV, they have to be absorbed sub-q. I honestly don't know about the newer insulins where onset is faster than even Regular, maybe some of the others know if they are used IV ?????

Amen. Regular is right. I am an L&D RN and we do insulin drips regularly. Regular is the only one that can be given IV. Was a Med/Surg RN for 10 years.
