0.25% Dextrose 0.45% NaCl solution

What are the indications of 0.25% Dextrose 0.45% NaCl solution? Why/when is it used instead of D5/NS?

Yes I can answer that. Fluids consisting of Dextrose and hypotonic saline provide more water than is required for excretion of salt thus they are useful as hydrating solutions. Some uses you might see are : assess kidney status prior to using electrolyte replacment solutions,hydration for medical and surgical pts.pts that need diuresis that also are dehydrated. Hope this help ps there is 77mEq/L of sodium in the 1/2 NS...in the .9NS there is 154mEqL
