Hi! new on this site....
I was wondering what the suggetions are regarding laptops for CRNA school. I start TCU this fall, just wondering if Laptops seemed necessary, and if so which ones were the most reliable...I'm not the most computer savvy! thanks for all your help!

Check with you school. I know my school absolutely requires a lap top. In fact, all of our tests are taken on our personal laptop.

I bought myself a new one a couple of months ago. I wanted a mac, but didn't want to spend the money or time learning a new system. I went to Best Buy, chatted with the salesman, and bought a fairly inexpensive one. Figure I'll buy the mac I want after school.

get a macbook. more expensive but a lot more reliable...the operating system of a mac is a lot more stable. these days, i think EVERY student should have a laptop.

Just purchased a DELL XPS 13"and I love it so far. Pricey but very powerful and light. Remember to get at least 2 GB of RAM if you are running Vista OS (current Microsoft OS) cause the OS will eat anywhere from 0.8-1MB of RAM just to run it. Also check with ur school cuz I know that mine supplies us w/ one. If they do, u might b better off w/ an external harddrive or flashdrive and carry the info to your home comp. instead of carrying the whole comp each day to and from school. I am actually typing on my new macbook that I got for school...I also got a time capsule with a 500gb hard drive to back up my stuff and create a wireless network here at my house. So, far I luv it, but am still getting oriented to mac os. It was a little expensive, but not if you compare it to like machines...2.4 ghz processor, 2gb ram, wireless card intel-n, loaded with office for mac 2008 and a 3 year service plan all for 1300.00 through the school. As I have posted before it is the pda thing that I am struggling with now.

I don't know if TCU has any specific requirements for your computer, but if not, I would go with a Mac. I've had my iMac for almost 4 years (!!!) and it runs as fast and as perfectly as the day I got it. No crashes, no slowing down. Love it! It took maybe a week or two to get used to it, but after that, it was so much easier to use than a pc. And if you get a pda with Palm OS, it is totally compatible.

By the way, have fun being a Horned Frog! I went there for my first undergrad degree, and hope to go back there someday for the CRNA program. It's a wonderful place and I'm sure you will enjoy your time there.
