Dad Named Angel

Ten years,
another day, another era.
Older still, a man now... don't know what to say to you.
You held me up above the world,
back when I still couldn't wipe my own tears.
You made me feel higher than all those dark days,
back when you had gone away...
But now, I'm just a man...
You paid your debt,
you say I owe you this...
I'm not too sure,
I even know who you are anymore.

Yeah well..... dads can suck sometimes. It's always sad when you wake up one day and realize that they are just as flawed as any other human out there.

Re: Dad named Angel

Ouch.

Beautifully written. I'm sorry for your pain.

Discovering that one's parents are nothing more, and nothing less, than grown-up kids is always disillusioning. But later on down the line, when the child is a parent---or even grandparent!---him/herself, it becomes easier to understand, and perhaps even to forgive, them for being the flawed, mixed-up, haunted, confused, and sometimes immature human beings they were.

May you find peace one day with your father.

I learned a lesson a long time ago....Dads are just guys....for better or for worse....they are just guys...like you and me.

I know my words don't ease the disappointment...but, I understand it.

A great poem.

Thank you for expressing it so well.

Re: Dad named Angel

You're welcome. Thank you for your comments... My father and I... we have a weird history... it's been a love/hate relationship as of late. He let me down big time for something that I can't forgive him for... yet. It has to do with some life "choices" I "made".

You're welcome back. It is good to hear that your heart is not hardened, allowing a possible reconciliation to occur. We all make mistakes.

You have my best.
