Last night
when no other staff
were in sight
A man
my patient
threatened my life
cause he knows he can.

"I will kill you"
rang his chilling words
Some thank-you
to receive
from a patient
who I vowed
to honor, respect and NOT deceive.

I tried to give him
the prescribedd pills
but he grabbed my arm
to entertain
his homicidal thrills.

Quick with a plan
I telephoned for more staff
and picked-up
the garbage can.

GET AWAY FROM ME!

"Where's the rest of the staff?"
He chuckled.
But my angry stance
wouldn't let me buckle.

Eye-to-eye
Not a blink
Please God
Let me think.

Staff and Psychiatrist shows
No angry exchange of blows
I chose this work
because I care.
I hate to back away
due to one nightly scare.

Last night
I had a close call
Because I chose
ME FIRST---YOU WON'T HURT THIS NURSE!

Suppose I HAD HURT HIM?...
I ALMOST LOST IT ALL.
